Have you tried adjusting fuel jets? Sounds as if the L or lo speed idle may need tweak.

SOURCE: i have echo 230 trimmer that runs on idle and wide

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

SOURCE: HEDGE TRIMMER IS EASY TO START AND RUNS GREAT AT

You have two adjustment screws on the carb, one is for adjustment the mix at idle and the other under throttle conditions. You can tune the engine by ear. Refer to your manual for which screw is which. If you don't have it you can figure it out by letting the engine idle and give one of the screws a half turn (CC or CW doesn't matter) if that affects the idle condition readjust that screw back to the original position and proceed to adjust the other screw with the throttle full pressed. You will be able to hear the engine lean out or when it runs too rich, simply listen to the engine for when it starts to rev properly.

SOURCE: So I replaced the carburetor, air and fuel filter, fuel lines, ignition coil, flywheel, carburetor gasket and clean the screen on the muffler, new spark plug and my Echo CS-400 chainsaw won't start

Air fuel and gas... It needs all of these

Are the crankshaft seals any good ??? This causes an air leak, leading to the engine not being able to draw in the air/fuel mixture
Check this by spraying carb cleaner into carb. Does it start ???
Did you check for spark ???
Did you set the coil gap ??? .010
Did you check compression ??? Someone mentioned 100psi. Close but most wont run under 90psi. Others need 120psi. Echo's will run under 90psi but not much lower
Did you remove the muffler and check the exhaust side of the piston ??? Scoring will keep it from running but I have seen them run, albeit poorly but still run with major scoring.
Is the spark arrestor still installed ??? Is it plugged ???

Just some of the tests I perform since I am an Echo/Shindaiwa Tech

I have a craftsman model # 316.791020 will not start have replaced with new carburetor new module new spark plug cleaned muffler plenty of fire through plug fresh gas tried small amount of gas in cyl

Remove the muffler and make sure your ring isn't seized to the piston. You should be able to move it feely. If you can't isn't not likely you're going to get it to start. Check compression too. Sometimes there simply isn't enough compression to fire the plug no matter how much spark and how much fuel.

Homelite weed trimmer bogs down and smothers out quits running

This could be a number of things. Clogged air filter/fuel filter/carburetor/fuel tank lid breather hole, cracked fuel line or primer bulb, or clogged spark arrestor in muffler. Here's some links that will help to change the bulb, fuel cap, fuel lines, rebuild carb, replace spark arrestor, and troubleshoot.

My gas trimmer starts but wont stay running

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vacuum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum, also the gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replacing gaskets or fuel line if necessary.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where they want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow until machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding against engine to check spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you, !!

Craftsman 25cc Gas Line Trimmer dies when giving throttle. It starts up and runs in the "Start" setting, then dies as soon as you give it gas. I replaced the carburetor...it ran great immediately after...

Sounds like the carb is getting clogged. Drain the old fuel and make sure the fuel filter is attached to the fuel hose inside the fuel tank. SeaFoam or a product called Start will sometimes clean the carburetor. If not, you will need to have the carb rebuilt, flushed or replaced.
Also, check your muffler and spark arrest, sometimes if they are clogged, you will have a similar issue.

Wont start put new plug and new gas.

Did you check for blue, snappy spark at the plug (gapped at 0.020") when you replaced it? If ok, put some fuel mix into the plug hole and try for start--it should pop several times. If ok, check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for any decay or other damage. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. Does the primer bulb pull fuel into itself after several pumps? If nothing, remove the fuel line from the carburetor that has the filter inside the tank and place it on the primer port that has the line coming from the carburetor. Try to pump fuel again--if successful, then remove the carburetor from the engine and clean it inside and out with spray carburetor cleaner. Check the lower chamber diaphragm for flexibility and no cracks or holes. There is also a small mid-body filter that can easily plug with stale fuel mix. Hope some of this helps!

Yard machine ym26ss straight shaft trimmer. New gas,

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

I have an older Weed Eater gas powered trimmer(Model XT 85T) The fuel lines have aged, rotted and broke. I have new lines (big fuel line and small fuel line). How do I get these lines through the holes...

gas line is 1/8" ID. NAPA autoparts sells replacement gas line that works but has an OD that will not fit hole in plastic frame where the carb sits. Just drill the plastic to the OD of new gas line and use needlenose pliers to install the line. Same goes for the gas tank. Just make sure it is tight fit so it does not leak.
