I had the same problem several times with AoE Rise of Rome , when I try to load a saved game it crashes to windows with an error .. first I tried to solve it by saving the game more times in a row , like three or four times , but once all four of my saves were corrupted or whatever so I tried to save the game while not having any building or unit selected . So far it works fine , but some saves where I had sth selected worked also . DON'T KNOW if this is a TRUSTY solution , but as I said I had no errors so far.
Age of Empires 3 requires a decent computer to run. If im correct in understanding what you are saying, you graphics card may not be up to date. This is what happend to me on several games. All i had to do was update my video card drivers and it worked.
The recommended requirements are:
- Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP - 512 MB of RAM
- 2.0 Ghz CPU
- 128 MB 3D video card - 1.5 GB of extra free hard disk space - 32x CD-ROM drive - DirectX 9.0c(important) - DirectX 8.0 compatible sound card
- 56 kbps Internet connection for online play
If you PC has all of the above or better, it should work perfectly.
If you do not have those requirments, download a 3D render that acts as a card for your computer, making your computer play games it orignally cant handly. I recommend "Swiftshader". Just type in google and go to there site, and download a demo. their are harldy any restictions on it apart from a splash logo in the side. when you extract, place the "d3d8", and the "d3d9" files in the root (main folder) of the game. Then run!
This method is good if you have a good amount of ram (more then the game requirements)
Sometimes when you buy a game, they games do not automatically load to install. The easiest way of fixing that. Is to open your "My Computer" and click on the disk drive. Which should say whatever current disc you have in there. In this case it would say Age of Empires. Click on that. The install screen should then come up and and once the game is installed you should be able to play it.
If it does not. Make sure your computer's graphic card is able to run the game. Also check the ram and CPU minimum specs.
