Take it apart and get in there to see what the problem is.

SOURCE: I HAVE AN AMANA GAS DRYER THAT MAKES A VERY LOUD

Here is the link for the owner's manual, but it doesn't look like much help. Just cut and paste on the address bar of your browser. http://shop.amana.com/assets/pdfs/literature/40125301.PDF
Once you get through looking over the manual, here is how you fix your dryer:

  1. Unplug the power plug, disconnect the gas line, and vent hose, and pull out where you can access all sides.
  2. Take a putty knife and insert it between the top and the cabinet at the front corners to release the spring clips.
  3. Flip the top toward the back making sure the wiring harness to the timer and controls does not get pulled.
  4. Take off the access panel toward the bottom of the cabinet, push the belt tensioner away from the belt, and pull the belt off of the motor pulley.
  5. Lift the drum out of the cabinet, clean and re-grease the ball and socket at the back of the drum, clean off the surface where the belt rides with steel wool.
  6. If the idle rollers turn freely, clean the lint off of the surfaces, put the new belt on the drum and lower back into place.
  7. Put the belt back on the motor pulley, put the bottom cover back on, flip the lid closed, reconnect the gas, vent hose, and plug in.

HI MY AMANA DRYER HAS A HARD TIME STARTING AND AFTER A FEW MINS. STOPS

I am a little puzzled! Normally the difficulty is with startup rather than stopping after starting. Are you sure that the drum actually turns or maybe it just sounds like it is turning? If it never actually turns then it is probably the belt or the motor. You can make sure by placing only a few items in the dryer (try a couple towels or different colors) place the towels inside, (pay attention to where they are) begin the cycle, open the door to see if the towels have changed position. If the drum has been rotating then try adding a few more items to see if things change.
If the drum does not turn at all it maybe the drum belt. If, as you increase the load, the drum has difficulty starting then it is probably the motor or a control circuit. Hope this helps...Good Luck. Douglas

The motore will run, but it is not spinning. The motor smells hot when it is running and not spinning.

Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt.
Here is a link to the belt.

Fridgidaire Gas Dryer - Mod.#FDG 546 RBS 0 Press start button just a humming noise, drum doesn't turn. Tried rotating the drum manually and it turns only with great effort so I don't think is't a belt. 12+...

Your glides are brobably broken and missing. This will make the drum hard to turn and bind the motor. Get the front off the dryer:

Get the screws out that hold the front on and take a look:

Under front of dryer, there are two 5/16" machine screws which hold the kick plate on. Remove these for access.
