I have a 1981 yamaha XS400 special and i need to know how tight I torque the crank case halves.

Tighten the 8mm threaded bolts with the 12' or 13mm head bolts, or nuts, between 12 and 16 foot pounds, and the 6 mm bolts with the 10 mm head 6 to 8 foot pounds

Starting doesn't go through the ignition switch it goes through the starter solenoid and the ignition switch controls that solenoid only about 5 amps.

I had one years ago..1n 84.......if i remember one bolt at back lift seat undo hose ar petcock vac hose 2 if equiped wiggle tank rearward,,, 2 i do not know.. 3 i do not think you need to drain oil ...have fun..

I have a 1981 xs400 and the wiring harness got burnt up be the previous owner. is there any other years that will match up with this bike?
