If the sim came with the phone that is an American phone you need a sim for an African mobile phone network in your country or you need to contact the American mobile phone network provider to get the unlock code. The phone may be locked onto a particular USA mobile phone radio network and you would need to know what network it is locked to. There are web sites that offer to get the unlock code on the internet for mobiles locked on a particular mobile network but I have not had experience using them and do not know how successful they are to try and unlock a mobile from a particular mobile network. You will find this out when you change the sim card in the phone for a local African mobile phone provider in Africa
see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC0KKX-2bn8

with an USA sim card and USA mobile network provider you will pay lots of money in Roaming charges which you would wish to avoid by using a local African mobile provider.
A local provider may be able to help you unlock the phone from the particular mobile network if it is locked on a USA mobile network.

There must be a mobile network provider in Africa that can work on your mobile phone type for it to work with that mobile network providers correct sim card.

Another source of problem could be if the phone has been reported as stolen the IMEI may not work due to being blacklisted and disabled.

SIM LOCK CHECKER

<b>CHECK SIM-LOCK</b> Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do notneed to check this because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lockthe phones. However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one yourphone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. Tomake a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone.A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lockthe phones so you can't use it with any other network sim card. If you findthat your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (We haven'tfound one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladlyexchange the 10 digit code for about &pound;35. This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't tryentering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone forgood. There are 4 different locks on yourNokia phone. <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>COUNTRY-LOCK <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>NETWORK-LOCK <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>PROVIDER-LOCK <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>SIMCARD-LOCK The code to read out the sim-lockstatus of your phone is #PW+(MASTERCODE)+(Y)# <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>#= DOUBLE-CROSS <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>W= PRESS "*" THREE TIMES <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>P= PRESS "*" FOUR TIMES <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>+= PRESS "*" TWO TIMES <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>MASTERCODE= 1234567890 <span>&middot;<span> </span></span>Y= NUMBER 1 TO 4 The master code is a secret code. Thecode has 10 digits, to read out the sim-lock status you can enter everycombination you want! "Y" Shows the status of thenetwork-lock. Here you can enter a number from "1" to "4".The "4" is for the sim-card lock.

This unlocking can be done through codes. I found a free unlocking service at Unlocking4free.com .If your mobile model is listed here, you can unlock your mobile easily.

N73 back camera auto on

My dear:
This error usually occurs when you attempt to use a SIM card from a network other than the network from which the phone originated (e.g. your Nokia mobile phone originated from Orange UK and displays the 'Sim Card Not Valid' error when you attempt to use a T-Mobile UK SIM card). The 'Sim Card Not Valid' error usually means the phone has been restricted for use on one specific network and you would need to unlock the phone before alternative network SIM cards can be used.

could You test the new SIM on another phone? Could be the housing of SIM damage on phone - hardware problem - Nokia Service.

in any case you need to find out which network and ask them for the unlock code.

Only the original network to which it is locked can provide this code.

Unlock n73? help!!

Usually you should use code number 7. If it doesn't work, try code 1. Different codes work on different phones. Remember that you only have 5 tries, after that you have to go to a repair shop. This code is calculated on nework Australia 3.
Model: Nokia DCT4 (ASIC 2)
IMEI: 353641013833342
Network: 50503
#pw+231195175235437+1#
#pw+166764105701501+2#
#pw+709000745074044+3#
#pw+216875755762111+4#
#pw+034093373534232+5#
#pw+314836155562275+6#
#pw+221335067227272+7#
Now a message like "Sim restriction off" should be displayed. That means your phone is now unlocked.
