I have problem to retrieve my data from WD PASSPORT 500gb. I urgently need to get the data back. I have been to 4 data recovery co. in kuala lumpur, malaysia and all cannot recover becasue of password problem. I have never used any pasword before and this problem just come as sudden. WD should support to provide emergency password to recover the important data. There must be a simple way to trace back the data though was locked by itself. Pls advise urgently!

Honestly, I don't know anyone in Malasya but if you want any good answer, you should reformulate your question posting make and model of the device whose accesories you are looking for. You don't need to limit your search to Kuala Lumpur. You can get parts by mail or courier service from any part of the world, i.e: Singapur
Hiii friends, I too had lost some of my files from WD hard drive recently. So in order to recover data from WD hard drive I used WD Caviar Hard Drive Recovery, which scans entire hard drive within few minutes and retrieves each and every file. You can download it from internet for trial usage.
It's hard to say from your description what the problem is but the first thing to do is determine the condition of the drive. You can check if there are problems with the drive using the free trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/
If it checks out ok then you can try to recover your data with Recuva it's free http://www.piriform.com/recuva
Or if that does not work you will need data recovery help. A good choice for low cost and fast data recovery is http://FreeDataRecovery.us
They do data recovery remotely over the Internet from a boot cd that you download and the best part is they just ask you to make a donation after they recover your data.
First stop using the drive. If you do use it Windows may overwrite your data with any new files you create.
To recover your data you can try a program like Recuva. http://www.piriform.com/recuva
If that does not work you will need data recovery help. This guy does it remotely over the internet and works off of donations. http://FreeDataRecovery.us
you can recover files from hard drive with data recovery program, recommended asoftech data recovery that helped me before, you can download it from http://www.asoftech.com/adr/
You need to have the WD Sync program on your computer; you can get it from your WD Passport, or, over the Internet. Once you have the software on your computer, you can synchronize.
WARNING: Do not think that theyourWD Passport, using the WD Sync software, is a backup drive; it is NOT !
As per the documentation with this device: "synchronization software is intended to synchronize the data from a computer to the drive (WD Passport) and SHOULD NOT be used as backup software. To use this software properly, we advise that you do not wipe or erase the data from the internal hard drive (computer) and resynchronize, as this will cause the data that WD Sync stored to the Passport to be deleted."
This is why you are hearing so many people saying that they are deleting the WD Sync software, reformatting, and using the WC Passport as a true backup drive where you can actually see the files that you are backing up, rather than a bunch of unrecognizable sync files that likely don't have all thefiles that you thought you "backed up".
