I HAVE 1.5 TON SPLIT A/C WHAT SIZE OF RUNNING CAPACITOR WILL WORK IN COMPRESSOR?

the capacitor that is required is the same size as what is fitted
it will read as voltage and uf number
best have a ac technician check it out as it may not be the capacitor but the power board
some ac units have a capacitor that is in effect two capacitors in one to run the compressor and the cooling fan as well
best get the technician in as it could save a lot of money in the long run

Condenssor fan moter not working

The condensor fan is usually a capacitor start capacitor run motor. To test i switch the unit on as normal then carefully flick the fan around in the direction of rotation (you may have to take the grill off) to do this,do not use your hand! If the motor starts to run it will be a faulty capacitor, do not leave it running for long as it will not run at full speed and will trip on thermal O/L or burn out. This is a common fault on AC split phase motors that use a capacitor for either starting or start and run.

Compressor just stopped working, does not cyle on for cooling

1. Is there high voltage(240 volts) power to the condensing unit?
2. Is there low voltage(24 volts) to the contactor?
3. Is the contactor pulled in and allowing 240 volt power thru?
4. Does the capacitor look burned or misshapen, is the top of the capacitor domed up?
If so the capacitor is bad and needs replacing.
If you have all the above items and the capacitor is good(the condensor fan should be running) and the compressor is still not running, then you need a professional to diagnose why the compressor is not running.

Split AC capacitor fused.

You need to trace the wires back to the device ie compressor, the fan now then write the color down. Note the capacitor has two different sides to it herm which is compressor and fan. then the common in the middle. Take the compressor wire should only be one and connect it to the herm. Now take the fan should only be one again and connect to fan. two devices connected. You might have two more wires and they go to the common. If you need any more help just get back to me. ken

Electrolux split AC 1.5 ton inside fan working. But out side compressor fan stops after two or three rotations.

The 2 most common issues are a freon leak or the outside unit fan start capacitor goes out. It's more likely a capacitor issue. They fail regularly, especially when it's hot out. I had a fan capacitor go out on one of my 3 units last year and it cost close to $300 for an AC company to come out and fix it. I watched them fix it and it's something that you can do yourself if you know what you're doing and are careful to hook it up right. I have three AC units and another capacitor went out this year and I found a kit with detailed instructions with pictures and phone support at hvacrepairkits.com. It saved me over $200 on the capacitor replacement.

Ac unit fan does not turn unless i force it to turn. also not producing cold air

If the fan just hums and if you spin the fan and it runs, check out the capacitor, it is bad. Most condensing units have a split capacitor, for the hermedic unit and the fan. If the compressor runs the dual capacitor is bad on the fan side. Your choice buy the dual capacitor, or just buy a single capacitor for the fan part of it. Make sure the voltage rating and microfarad ratings are the same. They will be marked on the old capacitor, as will fan (for fan), and herm for compressor). THATS 220 VOLTAGE YOUR WORKING WITH, BE SURE THE POWER IS OFF!!

Amana 1 ton Residential AC / Outside unit comes on for a sec

open the service panel to check for control voltage of 24volts when tstat calling, The contactor should be pulled in, if contactor is down, and contacts appear to be clean, and the unit is still not running, it is a bad compressor. to test this unplug the black wire from the compressoror at contactor,w/ power off! Turn on power if fan works normally it's a bad compressor. However if you see a swollen split cap(5 wires to a soup can looking w/ the terminal C,F,and Comp), switch it first and start at square one.
You also need to consider the high pressure switch if its cycling on off on off.
