Check in the manual the procedure for touchpad calibration, but at a glance looks more if the screen is faulty, when is calibration is not affected by temperature.

Tap the letter or number and display shows the letter or number directly below.

This is due to a miscalibration of the touchscreen. The touchscreen needs to be recalibrated. A procedure can be found here:

Touch screen not functioning properly. Press one key, get another

The touch screen on Garmin Nuvi 660 is not working at all. It turns on, but when I touch the screeen, nothing happens. Could it be the battery. It was low, so I charged it for 45minutes, then the gps screen dimmed and turned off after just 10-15 minutes of "messing with it"

Problems with keyboard, I want to press an "A" and an "H" comes u

I don't have a Nuvi 2xx with me at the moment but on a 3xx & 6xx series, press the wrench symbol and then the display icon and select recalibrate screen and go through the process and touch the dots as it tells you to do. This will recalibrate the touch screen.

Letters on keyboard

Hi,
looks like your touch screen is faulty . it could just be dust / dirt under the edges of the screen. If dust is trapped under the edge , it can effectivly be pressing the screen a little causing letetr to change or dissapear. See if you can get to clean under and around the edges , if the cleanup doesn't work then most likely cause is a faulty touch screen which will need replacing. Good luck.
