My portable Drive is not working. Cannot be recognized when connect to the computer through USB port

The usual problem is the Drive enclosure. Take the drive out of the enclosure and fit into a new one. They are cheap and this will tell you if the drive has failed or not.

I have a 320 gb acclaim portable hard drive. My mac doesn't read it, the first time I plugged it the lap asked me if I wished to format it and I said yes. Now it doesn't read it, what can I

You formatted the hard drive on your laptop in NTFS and the MAC cannot read and write to this formatted NTFS hard drive.
THE FIX
Format the hard drive using your laptop BUT this time format it in FAT32.
The MAC can read and write to a FAT32 formatted hard disk, so now you can exchange data between the MAC and the Windows laptop.

File too big for my verbatim hdd

While you can either try compressing the file and it might fit on.
Make the file smaller.
Delete what you no longer need.

My os system is windows7 home i have a verbatim model #is320 usb i would like to un partition this drive make it one drive for my music files thank you

i don't think if we could do it using a third party application, this might put your files in risk. best thing we have to do is to back up all your files and do a reformat. and reinstall windows again. for safety purposes.

How do I use your Verbatim? Please give me instructions

From Verbatim "Installing your portable hard drive is extremely simple - just use the included mini-USB cable to connect your hard drive to any free USB port on your computer. On Windows computers, a new icon will appear in My Computer representing your hard drive. On Mac OS systems, your hard drive will appear on the desktop as a new disk."

Make sure that you are connected to a usb port on your computer and not thru a usb hub. Also try a different port on your computer. It is unlikely that two hard drives would be bad, but I would try them on another computer. Thanks for using fixya
