this could possible be the caddy take the HDD out of the caddy and plug into PC if HDD is picked up buy new caddy if HDD picked up but with faults use recovery software like recurrva if you plug it in and it does nothing then the HDD is kaput
try pluging in HDD to another computer to see if problem is with HDD or with your laptop, if HDD works OK with another computer that laptop has an issue
The usual problem is the Drive enclosure. Take the drive out of the enclosure and fit into a new one. They are cheap and this will tell you if the drive has failed or not.
You formatted the hard drive on your laptop in NTFS and the MAC cannot read and write to this formatted NTFS hard drive. THE FIX Format the hard drive using your laptop BUT this time format it in FAT32. The MAC can read and write to a FAT32 formatted hard disk, so now you can exchange data between the MAC and the Windows laptop.
i don't think if we could do it using a third party application, this might put your files in risk. best thing we have to do is to back up all your files and do a reformat. and reinstall windows again. for safety purposes.
From Verbatim "Installing your portable hard drive is extremely simple - just use the included mini-USB cable to connect your hard drive to any free USB port on your computer. On Windows computers, a new icon will appear in My Computer representing your hard drive. On Mac OS systems, your hard drive will appear on the desktop as a new disk."
Make sure that you are connected to a usb port on your computer and not thru a usb hub. Also try a different port on your computer. It is unlikely that two hard drives would be bad, but I would try them on another computer. Thanks for using fixya
