Same problem here on 8GB Store 'n' go Verbatim drive... I tried every single shareware on the web, many of which claim that they did wiped the drive, Format thru the Win Administraive computer management disk management, even thru old win 98 bott fddisk...but it is still the same - now unreadable, and unformattable due to false "write protect" error. I wrote to Verbatim, but they obviously don't bother to help, or claim varranty.

  • martin9408 Sep 04, 2008

How do I turn off write protect on an EMPREX 8GB USB flash drive?

Suddenly the USB flash drive notifies that it is write protected while

copying files from my hard drive to the flash drive.

It copies 4.46GB and then I get the message “write protect error”.

It shows that 4.46GB is used and 3.04GB is free.

I have tried formatting in as FAT32. No help. The files that were copied

    are accessible.

I tried this program "HT203 Handy Steno 2.0 Repair Tool" which formats

    FLASH DISK fromhttp://emea.apacer.com/en/support/downlo... ,

but when I try to use it I get a Message “USB Flash Drive not found”.

I have tried everything and nothing works. I sure would like a answer to

    My problem.

1. Download this tool:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4040651/LLFTOOL.EXE

2. Format

(WARNING: After running this low level format tool,
the whole USB flash disk surface will be fully erased.
Therefore, data restoration will be impossible after using this utility!)

My Verbatim flash drive began having this problem after I saved a particular file to it. It seemed that right after I copied the file to the flash drive, it reported having problems trying to immediately open the file because the disk was "full or write-protected" when my disk was obviously not full. Later it wouldn't let me save anything new to the drive, same message. I backed up the last file I had copied to it on the hard drive of my computer (for some reason it would still let me copy files from the flash drive), then deleted the file off the flash drive. I can now save to it again without the error message. I'm sure there's a more technical reason for why this worked, but hopefully this will help someone else.

Install "SD Formatter v3.1" from here .
Format only might not work, go to Options, choose Format type "FULL (OverWrite)" in drop down menu.
After the overwrite process formatting might fail in the program.
Quit the program and try to format the USB falsh in Windows.
This worked for my Verbatim 16GB USB.
Good Luck.

I solved write protection on my Verbatim store 'n' go 1 GB by this program "HT203 Handy Steno 2.0 Repair Tool" which format FLASH DISK from http://emea.apacer.com/en/support/downloads.asp . I know its different manufacturer but its working.

REMOVE WRITE PROTECTION

Look for a small switch underneath or at bottom part of flash drive, switch it to the other side then try reformating it. just look on the sides of flash drive.
