Hey Leesa,
There are two options, and you can as well do them one after the other... First, restart your PC, and at the booting process/DOS, press F8, It would take you to some directory list, follow the navigation instructions on the screen to know how to move up and down, all you need is just up, down and enter key. Come down to "Safemode with networking" it will enable to LAN/Internet driver that would make you connect to the internet because you would need it, meanwhile safemode will restore all your drivers for you. After the booting completion, you should see a black screen as you desktop background image, and a word "safe mode" written in four places around the four corners of your screen.. However, after that, try and locate the Device Manager menu on your computer, you can easily get there by clicking on the Control Panel on your Start Menu. When you get there you would see the list of your computer hardwares, look for "Sound, video and games controller", click on the extension/directory button, you would see "High Definition Audio Device", and that is your Sound Driver...
The only program to install to make it work better is to update the your sound driver again... You can do that by right clicking on High Definition Audio Device>Update Driver Software, choose the internet update because that would download the updated one for you from Microsoft, After then restart your PC, do not hit the F8 hot-key anymore, allow it to boot normal.. and your sound should be working....
It may seem silly but make sure your sound device is not muted and turned up so it can be heard. If still no sound, then you may need to check to see if your driver is functioning correctly.
Navigate to your Control Panel > Open
Go to System > Select the Hardware tab >Device Manager
Check to see if you have any red exclamation points or yellow exclamation points next to your sound. Click on you sound card device and check its status to see if it is functioning properly. Then choose to "Roll Back Device/Driver". This will reset your sound card back to when it last functioned correctly.
Let us know how it works!
