Don't expect it play HD video without a lot of choppiness if it can do it at all. The Intel 865GV graphics chip is OK for basic office work, but the 64 MB shared video RAM and 2004-era performance are probably not up to handling fast action in 1080p graphics. (Some of the first HD TVs released at that time couldn't keep up either...)
The bottom line answer is that it will deliver about the same performance with a Blu-ray player that it does with the stock DVD player. If you can watch standard NTSC videos with the DVD player, you can see those on a Blu-ray player also.
I dont think that onboard graphics would handle it very well. I would suggest a simple upgrade, nothing too expensive as it would be overkill.

One of these should do the job. The 9800 is a great card, but is still a little pricey. The two cheaper ones should still do good.
Hope this helps.
It should but you have to remeber that if you are using the monitor it will be in vga. If you want the true hd you will need to put in a video card that will give you an hdmi output so that you can connect an hd monitor or tv.
