If you are working with radian angle unit or with the grad angle unit, it makes sense to 'get rid' of the DEG on calculator. Otherwise there is not point doing so as it is a reminder that the calculator is configured for degree. If you change the degree angle unit, it will be replaced by the one you will have chosen. What do you really want to do? Post a comment and we will see what can be done to please you.

The words FIX DEG appear on the screen and I can't get rid of it. It doesn't calculate properly

DEG says that the angle unit is set to degrees. You can change it to RADians, or GRADs. However much you want to get rid of all of them you will always have one of them. Learn to live with them.
FIX says that the decimal displays will always show a fixed number of decimals. You can decide how many you keep. Apparently your calculator is configured not to show any decimal digits: the number of fixed digits is set to zero. Change it to some other number
There are other display formats : Engineering ENG, and Scientific (SCI)
There is another format (possibly 2) called Norm 1 or Norm 2.
Set you calculator to one of the Normal formats.
Press SHIFT MODE to enter (Setup) and configure.
Advice: Learn to use your calculator. The best way to achieve mastery is to look inside the manual whenever you do not understand something.

Can't get rid of deg in sharp calculator

It simply indicates that the calculator is set to degrees. The calculator has three angular modes (degrees, radians, and grads). No matter which mode you set, the appropriate indicator will light up.

Why won't my sharp EL 531W give me the correct answer for SIN e.g SIN 30 should = 0.5 but my calculator gives me 0.453990

Your calculator is set for GRAD instead of DEG, it means that it takes your input in gradian instead of degrees. You should press the DRG button until it displays DEG instead of GRAD.

My calculator says DEG in the top right and I don't know how to remove it. Is this something that will not allow me to perform simple functions. Ten year-old children need to use this for class, so it...

The calculator has three angular modes: degrees, radians, and grads. No matter which of the three you select, the calculator will indicate which one it's in. You can get rid of the DEG, but only at the expense of getting one of the other two.

This should not affect the operation of the calculator in any way (except, of course, for the trignometric functions).

I have the letters DEG with an up arrow in the right top of calculator screen that I cannot get rid of. It will not allow me to compute square roots or anything. How do I get rid of these...

Hello,
Sorry, I do not know what problem your calculator has, but it certainly is not related to the presence of the DEG indicator in the top (user inaccessible) part of the screen. This is an indicator (or a reminder) that the angle unit was set to Degrees. If you change the angle unit to RADian, the DEG indicator will be replaced by another that displays RAD. Whenever the calculator is turned back on again, the angle unit is reset to degrees. What can one do? Better accept it, tolerate it, or ignore it.
So the gist of the story is that you cannot get rid of the indicators.

This answer is certainly not what you wanted to hear, but I am only the messenger, albeit one who volunteered to help a fellow human.

Greetings.

Display reads DEG on top with L under when I turn on. will not clear

Hello,
When you turrn calculator ON the angle unit is reset to Degree and the DEG indicator is displayed. I do not know what the L is for, but you can get rid of the DEG indicator during calculator operation only if you change angle unit to RADians or GRAdes. However it will be replaced by the indicator for the new angle unit. After the power down, the unit will be back to the default DEG. What can you do about that?
Hope it helps.
