The fan motor or fan shaft in the outside unit may need lubricating. Also check to see if some foreign object has gotten thru the grate cover on the top and the fan blades are hitting it.

Loud squeaking dryer

I have one of these units. They are great appliances. What you have is a very common problem with these units, the drum support bearing is going bad. I think they make a repair kit, but it's a chore to get to. If you are mechanically inclined, you'll do fine. Just make sure you remember the order you took stuff off, and reverse it to get it all back together.

Loud banging and squeaking

that depends - it sounds like fan motor going out or a foreign object. With a flashlight go outside and observe the unit running ( ideally during the malfunction ), you will want to shine the flashlight into the louvers of the case so that you can see inside the unit (( depending on construction)). Look for bent / loose fan blades and/or foreign materials. If no obvious obstructions are found you will need to consult a qualified person. To give you an idea of what you can expect I will construct a repair scenario :
Service call : $65 - $90
Fan Motor : $ 80 - $150
Fan Blades : $ 30 ( hopefully you can re-use your old one if it is not damaged)

The only other thing that it could be is the compressor, if that is the case don't bother repairing. Get a new unit.
Take my example, add it up and compare it to a new unit with a least as much or more BTU output. If repair costs are 50% or more of a replacement unit I would recommend replacing it with a new one.

A few words on selecting the right repairman.

If you choose to consult a repair service check to see if they are listed with the BBB.
Ask around - friends & relatives may be able to point you to somebody.
Take advantage of vocational programs in your area : Most vocational schools have heat and air classes. The young people attending these classes will sometimes repair your unit for parts cost to get the practice ( check with the school)

Hope this helps

Dryer squeaking & Clunking noise

Your particular unit has quite a few things that could be making a real loud noise.....The idler pulley, blower wheel, rear drum rollers, front drum glides. Bottomline is you have to get in there and take the unit apart..vacuuming while there and if the unit is making such a noise, it will be obvious where the problem is.....If I can help further, I am here.......

Dryer drum doesn't turn; makes a loud squeak sound

The problem is most likely your drum belt. Most run all the way around the outside of the drum, across a tensioner pulley, and around the motor.

This could be easy, or it could be a nightmare. Disassembly of the outer cabinet can be tricky. Some drums ride on pullies, while others slide on drum felts.

Your local appliance parts store can give you some guidance, and probably a few cards of qualified service guys. If you're mechanically inclined, and have a history of being able to take machines apart, AND reassemble without extra parts laying around, then give it a shoy. Otherwise, pay a pro, and save your Saturday.
