We replaced the flushing mechanism with a new exact duplicate. Now it wont stop running. How do I adjust the flusher? and how do I get more water in the toilet bowl?

The fill valve is adjustable for water level. You should have extended it to match the original height. running water check flapper valve to ensure is is seated, the the chain may be to short and not letting is fully close. If there is excess chain it can get under flapper. Look on YouTube for videos.

Flaper closes inmaturly after flush

I had that happen due to water level on being high enough in tank. I increased my tank water and problem stopped for me. I also adjusted the flapper chain that also helped. I also replaced the flapper and it was also worn out.

I have to hold down the flusher in order for the toilet to flush entirely. What do I need to adjust?

You need to adjust the chain so that it is a shorter lift. Thus the flapper will come up higher and then buoyancy and pressure take over until the water drains out of the tank and into the bowl. It is a 30 second job.

Not flushing, bowl will not fill up with water

Hi rjhfp

Check inside of the tank to make sure the connector from the handle of the flusher to the "flapper valve" is connected, to do this you have to remove the tank lid.
If it is connected then you have a different problem.
Sounds like you have trash in the valve inside of the "ballcock assembly"
The ballcock assembly is the part that lets the water into the tank, and the "flapper valve" is the part that allows the water to flush into the bowl...
Replace you ballcock assembly and it will solve your problems.

Flapper wont stay up during flush

Hi,
In the bottom side of the flaper there is a hole. There sould have come with the flapper pugs to make the hole smaller if the flapper goes down too fast... If you have them put a plug in there that has a smaller hole...they will be assorted colers, each color having a different size hole.
If you do not have the plugs then shut the water off and use something like a silicone caulk to close up the hole some. This will keep the air inside the flapper longer and help it to "float" or stay up longer...
Let the silcone setup or dry for a couple hours and then try again... or just buy a replacement flapper that has the plugs.... the whole replacement should cost less then ten bucks...

How hard is it to change the flaper that lets the heat come in the vents. the shop said the flapper is stuck. the blower blows but it will not heat. heater coil is good. how hard is it to take dash out.

Check the flapper actuating mechanism is working ok. The flapper vane may be seized up due to water/corrosion etc.
If it is lever / cable actuated, the mechanism may be seized up due dirt/rust/corrosion.
Application of WD40 (or similar) may free up the jambed lever/cable mechanism or flapper vane.

If vacuum activated, check vacuum servo and connections for air leaks etc.
Hopefully the above checks/lubrication can be performed without removing major dash components.

Toilet keeps running even when manually lifting floater to max

check handle to ensure no tension is on the flapper chain when not being flushed. check flapper to ensure positive seal to flush valve. check water level to ensure not overflowing into flow valve. if that's the case, lower water height.

then if still doesn't work, change flapper,

all else fails, change flush valve.
good luck,
steve

Owner is saying that toilet keeps running.I changed the fill valve and the flaper works fine.

Hi,

If the flapper base has a nick or debris on the lip of it, water can get by, dropping the level. You might also check the tube attached ti the flapper; if it is cracked, water will also escape through there. Make sure that the water level is not too high above the fill line. If it is, it will overflow the same tube attached do the flapper base.
Less frequently, but a possibility is the adjustment of the chain or flapper float. If the chain is left too long, it can get under the edge of the flapper and keep it from sealing. That's why I like the tupe with a small float attached to the chain. If the chain is too short going to the handle, the flapper may not seat fully. If the flapper chain has a float assist attached to it, the float can sometimes catch on other things in the tank, most noticeably the float lever, if equipped. Speaking of which; if you installed the fill valve type that has a ball float on it, the ball can rub against the side of the tank, the overflow tube, or catch the flapper chain/handle/flapper float. The correction cor this is to reposition the fill valve assembly so the ball has good range of motion.
If all else fails, you can replace the entire tank and guts for about $30. I recently did this for a cracked tank, and got one at Lowe's. It was a generic, and went on an American Standard. Worked fine.

Pull the lid off of the tank and just look for the obvious!

Replaced flaper as it was leaking in about 30 mi. Replaced and st

Hard to read you question. No sure what it is but if the flapper is still leaking it may be bcause most brand of fleappers do nto fit American Standard commodes correctly. Purchase a replacement made for American Standard only.
