Thanks for your help Benimur. I took your advice and dowloaded and updated everything! :) There weren't any real errors to speak of but it's still not working. I took the unit to a mates today to satisfy my curiosity, tried to run it on his PC (serial to serial) and it still didn't recognise it!!
Now I'm in trouble I guess. Seems like it's a hardware issue. Now I need to find someone who'll look at the sensor for me!
Appreciate the update. Since as you posted you tried it to serial to serial then I would have to agree with you that the problem is with the hardware.
Perhaps this may be of help to you and whoever will look over the sensor. To my knowledge USB connection would at most require 4 wires (+5, GND, Data+ & Data-) while most serials would have 9 pins/connection/wires. This link can provide their pinouts.
Offhand, most likely suspect would be the cable or the connector specially the junction of the two.
Incidentally, this link may provide some technical background on the operations of the sensor pad though it would need a technical person to correlate information into actuality. I believe one has to be a member to be able to download the complete file (hopefully together with the illustrations).
Good luck with your project and sorry was not that much assistance.
If we are to check the sensor's cable, at most that would be continuity check, then any electronics knowledgeable person would be able to perform the check (as long as he has a continuity tester/DVM)

Dear sir If you want my advice; just reinstall windows. This error hard to handle since it is in the core of Vista and now you cant access control panel or updae to fix it.
So reinstall, register; and try to keep your system up to date with windows update.
The 16 digit number or the product key for your game is can be found it is CD Case..Look for it there. You can also find it inside the cd installer. Browse in its folder and look for the key. If you can't find it then ask for the key from the store where you bought. Don't forget to rate me.. Thank..
Press the wrench at the main menu, then the Gear (system) icon. Then look for the option that says SIMULATOR. Make sure that function says OFF. With it ON, you can Simulate a driving route but your GPS will not be working in real time mode.
Download and apply the dst updater provided by the manufacturer. All the dst update does is change the day dst starts and stops to conform to what our government in its infinite wisdom (sarcasm heavy) decided what was best for us. Doing it after the fact will not harm anything if that?s what you?re worried about.
