I am trying to connect using Cisco VPN through my Motorola wireless router, but cannot connect. I check with my internet service provider and they do allow VPN. Our IT division has checked the installation of this program several times including checking the host address. I am told there is nothing wrong with the way the VPN is set up on my laptop. I am not sure where to go from here. Thank you for any assistance you might provide.

Can you bypass your router and connect your laptop directly on your internet modem. You might need to configure a dialup connection on your computer using PPPOE or not depending on your internet connection. Then try using the Cisco VPN client.

Have you used your Cisco VPN before and are you able to connect to your company network with no problems?

I'm just trying to narrow it down

The devices appear to be in functioning order. However, the connection network requires another computer on which signals are directed towards. The computer server on which network resources are acquirable is unavailable. For example, your devices can provide sevices to another computer if any were avialble. Usually an internet provider would allow acess to several computer with subscription. Consult an internet service provider, examples, at & t, T- mobile, Verizon, boost mobile, or consult any available at your local area. www.at&t.com, www.t-mobile.com, www.verizon.com, Goodluck

I think you're confused. IP Communicator is the unified communications client (IM and Phone) It is looking for a capatible headset so you can use your softphone. This software is not your VPN client. There are two different cisco product: one for your VPN and one for your phone. If you're trying to ocnnect to an old-style Cisco VPN, your IT dept will have to configure that with a certificate.
Solution from Cisco: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps5475/products_tech_note09186a00809b6c40.shtml
This behavior is observed when a user attempts to install or use the IP Communicator on a system that has different names for the Playback (wave out) and Recording (wave in) devices.
In order to overcome this problem, perform one of these tasks:
-Use a USB headset that is recognized by the IP Communicator.
-Upgrade to the latest version of the IP Communicator

You probably have the wrong feature set on the IOS. You would need to download a new IOS image that has the security feature set.

I have a Surfboard SBG900 router and cannot connect to VPN

The issue you have is not due to enabling WPA. It is due to enabling Firewall protection. Either turnoff firewall or use custom option to enable required ports.

VPN connection issues

check if you can enable "VPN pass-through" on your home router.
try diabling its security features (firewall) one at a time and try afterwards.
last option perhaps try upgrading to the 5.06 version of the vpn client.

Cisco VPN Client won't connect

You'll want to enable the VPN transparency. In the router's administrative web interface, click the Security Tab, then the VPN Passthrough sub-tab. Cisco VPN's usually use IPSEC, so enable the IPSEC Pass-through and click "Save Settings". If this doesn't work enable the PPTP Pass-through as well and give that a shot.
