You don't need the CD that came with your router, but you will need to be able to access the router's setup pages. You use your Web browser (IE, Firefox, etc) to get at them, and will need to log in. You don't say which brand and model router you have, so I can't give you specific information. But you can visit the manufacturer's website, where you can often download the setup software that came on the CD, and they will have manuals and help available that can tell you the process. You can also look at this page, which lists the address and login information for most brands of router.
you must need to put in more than the ppoe connection type, there is the vpi =0, vci =38, then input your isp's username and password to get a connection.
All this must be done via the RJ45 cable and making sure that the pc's lan card is set to obtain an ip address automatically.
To get into the routers settings, type into your web browser either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.100, as i'm not sure that actuall routers address, sometims it's on the underneath or refer to the manual.
