Vizio 42 in. LCD TV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 06, 2011

My Vizio 42 in. LCD TV has red lines or outlines on the screen. It goes in and out, but doesn't hardly go away. It happens no matter if the cable, dvd or xbox is on. I have tried messing with the settings like brightness, color etc, but nothing works. Please let me know if there's a solution to fix it. Thanks, Steven B Salem, Al

Would most likely be a problem with the mainboard does the menu of the tv look normal it should be blue. if the menu looks red like the video then it is most likely a bad mainboard if you were to post the model number i can find the part number for that mainboard

Our TV has the same problem. The Menu does NOT have red in it. It is red on the outline of the picture and red "picsals" on the pictures....HELP!!!

im sorry i wrote the last entry incorrectly if the menu looks normal then it is going to be a mainboard if all the video and onscreen display is bad then it could be a problem with the t-con board or timing control board for the lcd panel. it could possibly be a mainboard also if the menu is red i suggest starting there. with a model number i will be able to find a part number and price. good luck

46" vizio led black lines on left side of screen never goes away

Hey Josh,

If this set is under warranty return it immediately. You could be looking at either a faulty LCD panel connection or a faulty LCD panel.

My Vizio LCD TV screen fades to dark. Sound stays on.

I w having this same issue when watching a Blu-Ray disc. I found it to be dependent upon what picture mode the TV was set to. By this I mean certain picture modes would cause the TV to dim during dark scenes of a movie. Changing the picture mode helped a lot.

My vizio tv has red lines all over the screen sometimes. It goes away but it comes back at times. It is brand new. I have an HDMI cable hooked up for gaming purposes and it just started doing this lately.

IF IT IS NEW, SO IT SHOULD HAVE WARRENTY, TRY TO GET THE DEALER AND TELL HIM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. SEEMS TO ME, COULD BE THE RETRACE LINES ARE SHOWING UP AT TIMES WHEN THE PICTURE FRAMES ARE HIGH

Control board / controller board is the board that connects VIA ribbon cables usually at the top. A used one should be cheap 50 -75 ad is fairly easy to replace. Make a new post with the make and model of your tv and you will more detailed info.

Vizio 42" LCD with Screen problem

Find the LCD Controller board (TCON). Disconnect the cables from it to the LCD panel. Carefully re-connect them. Make sure the cable is properly positioned in the connector. You may have to do this several times to get it work. The flat cables are a problem.

Blue color spread over the pictures

This sounds classic to a thermo problem where a part(s) are becoming thermo sensitive with aga and use. When the set is cold and then warmed up, the defective part(s) is changing characteristics.

Some components became thermo sensitive that are driving the display. Or an embeded component in the display itself became thermo sensitive. It is very possible that the fault is on the board that does the X - Y addressing or on the backplane electronics of the display screen itself.

Using the set with defective components is a bad idea. If the part(s) fail completely and go shorted or opened, other more costly damage can be done.

The service rep for the manufacture of your set is equiped and trained to be able to troubleshoot and service your set.

You will have to take the set in to have it serviced.

Red line on screen

I had the same problem -red, vertical bars along the right side of my Samsung 42" Plasma- and this is what fixed it: Removed unterminated cable.
I had hooked up an HD video camera to the set about two weeks ago.  While I disconnected the camera I left the other end of the connector cable plugged into the T.V..  As I've since learned from friends who work in television, this is what's called an "unterminated cable" -meaning one end is unconnected.  It can lead to problems with electrical interference and appears to have been the problem in this case;  When I disconnected this cable from the T.V. the red bars went away.
So, check your cables.  Make sure everything is properly connected and get rid of anything that might be picking up interference.
Hope this makes sense.
