Sony ICF-DS11iP doesn't play my Ipod touch. Radio, Alarm, Ipod Charging functions work. Pls suggest a solution

Please check the iPod connector on the Sony. If you can wiggle it, it is probably a bad connection. These models Sony radios have the connector directly soldered on a PCB and it tends to get loose after a while due to connecting/disconnecting the iPod. If it is loose, the connector needs to be resoldered back into place.

I have had the following circumstances when there was a bad connection:
- iPod will not be charged
- iPod can not play music through the Sony
- iPod will play music through the Sony, but an iPhone won't

Is there an update for the alpine ida-x300 to run the new generation ipods ? It states, on the connected ipod / iphone, that it will not charge.

If you get the ALPINE KCX-422TR or search ebay for "12V TO 5V CHARGING FOR iPOD iPHONE" you can get a fix for your iphone cable. Basically the new iphone/ipods use 5v not 12v like the older models.

How do i charge my ipod

To charge the battery, choose one of the options below:
  • Connect the device to your computer (not your keyboard) using the included cable to charge the battery and sync. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If the device is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
  • Connect iPhone or iPod touch to a power outlet using the included cable and a USB power adapter to charge the battery.
An icon in the upper-right corner of the screen shows battery charging status. If you charge the battery while syncing or using iPhone or iPod touch, it might take longer to charge.
Note: If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged into power and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed, the computer may go into standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPhone or iPod touch may not charge.
Important: If iPhone or iPod touch is very low on power, it may display one of the following images indicating that the device needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it. If the device is extremely low on power, the display may be blank for up to two minutes before one of the low-battery images appears. If you don't see the white charging or plug icons, your iPhone or iPod touch may be connected with a FireWire cable. Disconnect the FireWire cable and connect the iPhone or iPod touch to a USB cable or dock.
that should be everything you need to know about charging an iPod Touch. If you require further assistance please feel free to followup with additional comments. If this solution solved the problem please feel free to rate it. Thanks and have a great day-Midwest-Tek

Getting error message software not compatible with IPod

This compatibility issue is caused by the same change with the Apple Dock Connecter introduced with the iPhone 3G. Inside the iPod / iPhone Dock Connecter are 30 metal pins. Previous iPods and iPhones allowed for charging either over pins reserved for the USB connection or pins reserved for the obsolete Firewire connection.
While Apple apparently announced this upcoming change to manufactures of “Made for iPod” accessories back in 2005, Apple only formerly discontinued Firewire charging support with the most recent iPods. New iPods and iPhones can only charge via the USB pin.
As such, there is no way that a software update can fix this issue in the future; this is truly a modification in iPod hardware.
