I had the same issue, not once but twice. Both times however, it required service technicians to fix, and actually replace the device. There was an additional issue however that may have started the decline in the first place. I am unable to get high speed internet, and as a result, many of my updates are interrupted and files slowly become corrupted. If this occurs often enough, it can actually corrupt your O.S. and browser! I had to replace the internal CD/DVD in my computer twice, and the last time, they had to wipe my computer and reinstall the O.S. Not the best of news. What I do now to avoid the problem, is to disable automatic updates, and only update elsewhere where I can get high speed internet services. It's a pain, but better than having the issues that come with slow internet. .

Yes - Impact is everything.

I found your answer,
Grab you machine and look at the symbols on the disk draw.

The device you have is a CD/RW-DVD Rom.
What this means it is a CD Writer and a DVD Reader.
This device will never burn DVDs.sorry

To write DVDs you will need to buy DVD/RW device.

I hope this helps ,please rate me thanks

SOURCE: ACER 9410CD/DVD-ROM driver not found.

Hi there,
I am assuming you are using XP,

update the drivers via device manager and select the device with the yellow question mark, right click update, reboot and restart

if nothing then remove the device via add/remove programs
select device and remove, reboot and restart

should auto recognise and install the drivers for you,
dont forget to do SP2 updates
Good luck with that,

Let me know how it goes thanks

SOURCE: acer 4520 cd/dvd driver problem

Hi, the error code that you have is a known issue from Microsoft that needs a registry tweaks. Error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)" . You can click on this link for your reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

This will surely help you resolve your issue. Good Luck!!!
Thanks

SOURCE: CD/DVD Drive now disappeared

Sorry to say that your cd/dvd drive is DEAD

You need a replacement

You have done all you could to see if the registry is corrupted and drivers are installed which are the basic things the drive needs to run

Since you have said that you did these things the last resort is to now declare it dead and replace the drive.

I have a Dell. My Roxio prog doesn't recognize a discs

That means there is something wrong with your driver. If it cannot read any disc you inserted then the problem exist in your drive. You don't need to reinstall any driver as long as you can see your drive being recognized by your computer and you can see your drive in the My Computer with a letter indicated on it. Your drive is in need for a replacement. This problem indicates a hardware failure specifically the lens of the device.

Hope this helps..

GMA 4082n device driver not working properly code 39

First go into Setup (usually F1,F2 or del) at start-up. See if your drives show up there. With Windows running, right click My Computer, left click Properties, left click Hardware, left click Device Manager, left click DVD/CD-ROM drives. Also check IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Do the drives show up there? If they do right click on drive and left click Update Driver. If they are not there go back to System Properties and left click on Add Hardware Wizard. This will search for devices. It may ask you to insert Windows CD which of course you can not do because the drives don't work. Try a different drive. When you cleaned out your computer did you delete or uninstall Office? That may be what caused this problem. None of this may work but it is a starting point.
