VirtualBox is not really the best choice for gaming. I strongly suggest using WINE. WINE allows you to run Windows software under Linux (with a few bugs now and then), but a vast majority of games are playable under WINE. See http://www.winehq.org/ for instructions on installing and using WINE.
Most games are supposed to be compatible with windows not linux. If you have a copy of any windows operating systems(for example windows 2000, windows xp, windows 7) lying around or a friend has a copy or even the one that came with most computers, then virtualbox is the best choice. Another but has some problems is wine hq. If you want to get more games that are compatible with linux not windows is on this link http://www.penguspy.com/#/All/free_and_commercial/sort=1/view=1/limit=0 I hope this solves your problem. Please comment me on your progress with any of the things I considered earlier.
