Not really sure about the Polaris. But ususally when you fix the problem on a car, it operates normally. But it takes a few key on and offs to remove the light.

I have a 00 700 XC and my temp light and engine use to do the same thing. I raised the hood once and noticed the temp sender wire had rubbed bare and a cylinder head bolt and was shorting out. Just an idea??? Not sure if it would cause it to run rough though, it seems as if mine did as well a few years back.

Trace the wiring from the earth side of the headlamp, you have a high resistance earth wire maybe corroded where it fixes to the frame.

THIS IS PROBABLY A VOLTAGE REGULATOR PROBLEM.

Recheck the bulb number. This happens when the wrong bulb number is installed. Otherwise it could be a bad headlight ground.
