WONT DRIVE FORWARDS OR REVERSE.

if there is fluid under the vehicle, then likely you have punctured the transmission pan cover. without fluid present, the transmission will just slip out of gear.

if no fluid has dripped out of the pan, then you may have significantly altered the alignment of the drive-train to the point that parts are not lining-up anymore.

Check the shifter linkage to make sure nothing has slipped.

4l60e Shifts into 1 and 2 then slips drasticly< rpm

This is the typical transmission failure on these. You need a rebuild. The 3/4 gears clutches are burnt up.

My Automatic non-turbo 84 300zx wont work

pburcham: In studying up on your problem, I could only come up with a few possibilities from your description.
1. Linkage adjustment
2. A problem with the "Low and reverse Brake band"
however, this usually has a symptom of poor acceleration
due to the transmission slipping. That band has to grab the drum to hold for low gear.
3. Problem with the manual valve in the valve body.
4. Damaged seals causing pressure leakage which will keep the clutches from locking up.
5.Defective "High Reverse clutch" (front) check ball
Possibly a few other things, but everything (unfortunately) is still internal. The inhibitor switch is for the starting circuit and just keeps you from starting the car in anything but park and neutral.
Transmission control unit will not have this harsh an effect. It should operate without the TCU. You should be able to do a manuel shift with the transmission.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I can say one thing, these transmissions were not known for failures, consequently should be a dime a dozen in salvage yards.
Why or how you got a bad one?????? Don't know?
If I can help, let me know........

Transmission wont pull in reverse and takes a second to catch in drive overdrive and second gear

you need it rebuilt. lol the clutches are worn out in forward gears, producing the late engagement and slipping, and reverse is burnt out. The fluid probably isnt red anymore, check to find out, but it needs to be removed and serviced before the etire transmission gives out.
