Is it possible to connect a land-line phone to the pk5000 modem that is connected to Qwest's fios in order to use the same phone number (account number) for both internet and phone service by using filters or plugging directly into phone port on back of modem?! I get no service when I plug my land-line phone into the wall jack with a filter or when I plug straight into the modem, with and without a filter. I do understand a filter is already within the modem but I'm just trying whatever. I would like to stay away from VOIP and headset/mic if at all possible. All I'm looking for is a local-only land-line (for as close to free as possible) so my two young daughters can use instead of always needing Mom's and Dad's cell phone to call local friends from school.

You can use USB instead of Ethernet port but its not a common practise. Leave it empty then.

Modem

Assuming that Windows has recognized the modem, and has loaded the correct device-drivers, Windows can use the modem.

You'll need to find an Internet Service Provider that provides "dial-up" service.

You'll need to have a land-line telephone (not a cell-phone) with your local telephone-company.

Connect a 4-wire cable (not an 8-wire Ethernet cable) from the "line" port on the modem to the telephone wall-jack.

Then, follow the instructions given you by your Internet Service Provider to configure your modem to connect to their dial-up server. Or, telphone them, and their Technical Support staff will guide you through the necessary configuration steps.

The fax console is recieving the land line number

The problem is not in the configuration, but the fax connection. The fax modem port must be connected to the fax jack - not the same jack you connect your phone to.
