When I insert a blank CD, the message "OPCFAIL" appears.

is it a Phillips? I found this link about using specific typs of CD's.

Hi one thing you can try is to clean the laser with a lense cleaning kit did the dvd player accept these before or not let me know ok

try running a laser cleaner disc, try a different CD

Hello.The problem is not in your television.It is in the DVD player,your player did not read the cd because,either your cd or the lens player is dirty.Now,try to clean the cd first then insert,if the "no disc "appear again try to clean the lens of your player using lens cleaner.Then if the cd and the lens is clean it may play.Thanks

I would suggest uninstalling the software, reinstalling it and then making sure that you have all of your updates on the software and the firmware updates on the DVD drive.

If neither of these work, the laser is likely gone, and you'll have to replace the drive.
Oh, lens cleaning...GENTLY wipe with a q tip with rubbing alcohol on it.

It's a data disc, not the required CDR-AUDIO or -MUSIC disk it needs to record.

Erase the disc again even though you think it is blank - use the erase application in Windows or Nero. Then try again.

I HAVE A PHILIPS CDR 870 "OPC FAIL" PROBLEM. I HAVE RECORDED ONTO CD-RW, AND NOT YET FINALISED THE DISK AFTER RECORDING, IN ORDER THAT I CAN GO BACK LATER TO ADD FURTHER RECORDINGS. AFTER SWITCHING THE MACHINE BACK ON OPC THEN OPC FAIL FOLLOWS, EVEN WITH NEW DISKS CD-R AND CD-RW. MGHT THE MACHINE ITSELF REQUIE CLEANING OR IS THIS A FAULT? I AM USING MAXCELL DISKS, BOTH TYPES. After installation of Picture package softward, I am unable to burn the recorded video directly to CD-R. The software is not at all recognising the CD Writer, and give a message insert a blank CD, eventhough a blank CD is in the drive.
