Have you install all the drivers that comes with your notebook?

hello, the drivers can be downloaded from the same place which is toshiba website. Now I personally have used an english key to install a spanish version of windows xp. I dont know if this would be the case with your version.

just go to control panel and locate clock language and region .
and then go language section and change it.
or go properties and find language zone and chane it.

Here's the story with Windows XP... On a system running ENGLISH Windows XP (Professional ONLY), you can put a Multi-language User Interface (MUI in short) and make it localized. This action is reversible, means you can go back to English at any time or switch to another language. BUT, if the original Windows language is NOT English, you just can't switch the user interface to English.

How to check if it's original English version or not? - Go to Control Panel (a symbol of a notebook and a pen) -> Regional and Language Options (a symbol of a globe). Click on the Languages tab (the middle one). If there's a selection box at the button - you're in luck! Click it and change to English. Then accept and restart!
In there's no selection box - I'm sorry but you'll have to format and install an English version of Windows XP - Home or Professional - whatever fits you best!

PS: On laptops that ships with Windows pre-installed in a localized version (language), there's SOMETIMES an indicator to it on the license sticker at the bottom of the laptop.

Start button, control panel, language, change it and region to USA,
English.

If it is a Chinese install, the only way you can change it is if windows
is Pro, or ultimate. Home editions can not load language packs.

Press the Numlock key, you might have to also press the Fn key to do it.

Try to go into System BIOS. Once you are in use the option Load Defalut settings.
And if any external device is connected other than CD-ROM, please disconnect it.

THEN TRY AGAIN TO INSTALL

You can change from japanese version to English version without any issues. Also you need to download and install the drivers (can be obtained from Sony website) for English version of XP after installing the same.

Go to your Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages, Details, and check that the default input language, and keyboard are English. This is assuming you're running Windows XP.
