SOMETHING is overheating and self destructing. You need to remove the cover and take a good look and even smell around when it is stinking. Acquire a 2 foot long length of clear plastic tubing (1/2 inch diameter and use it to 'suck' in the air from around (on the top side) of things to locate the source. DO NOT stick hands or head into or around things when it is on. There ARE lethal voltages and currents in there.
I understand that you are receiving a burning rubber smell from your Frigidaire microwave. I also see that your appliance will run for a couple of seconds, and then you hear a weird noise, followed by a burning rubber smell. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician, especially when dealing with your microwave. They will be able to diagnose your appliance and determine what is causing that sound as well as the burning rubber smell. Hope this is helpful.
Was the smell inside the cavity or inside the case? If inside the cavity it could be the waveguide cover. If inside the cabinet it could be a bad contact somewhere. I wouldn't use it again until you find out what is causing it.
please dont use this microwave any more its about to go with a very bigbang and maybe a bright flash??? my bet is the capacitor is leaking, thats why it smells? realy what you have here is a fire wating to get started, fed by the 1000,s of volts stored in the cap thats just bursting to get out, and its going to very soon, all in one go too!!!! trust me,,, when the cap blows its going to sound like a very big rifle has been fired off in your kitchen, and if you think it smells now???? wate and see what it smells like after its gone bang!!!! its a comon fult,,,,,bump it now!
Hey
There are several things you can do to help git rid of that smell
First get a mild cleaner with bleach (soft scrub ect!) and clean entire oven inside and try getting that scorch mark off! a little pressure should lessen it ! (there is no filter inside! The plastic inside covering holds smells for a long time! you can also put a cup of white vinigar inside warm on high for 1 minute and leave in overnight!
Please take a second and rate my response
Thank You1
I WOULD SAY SO! Most likely the power inverter board shorted out.
Sounds like perhaps someone put something with metal inside the unit without knowing and turned it on. Doing this tends to overheat the power inverter board causing a short in the system.
Be safe than sorry, replace the unit with a new one for around $100US. Lowes Home Improvement centers have some that are very inexpensive and are available in brushed stainless steel to match most kitchens.
First try cleaning the burned mark off. Dip a scrubber in lemon juice and sprinkle salt on it; this is also great for burned coffee pots. The smell can be gotten rid of this way: Boil lemon peel in water, then put the water in a spray bottle. Not only will it make your microwave smell fresh but the lemon oil will make it easier to clean. If it still smells of burning rubber, take the back off and inspect the wiring. IF you see burned wiring, please do yourself a favor and replace the microwave!
Microwaves work by making the molecules in food get "excited"-they move more-meaning, if there IS rubber burning, then there will be minute molecules of rubber in your food, which is BAD for your immune system. If it's just burned chocolate, though, it is harmless unless you are allergic.
