Try starting the computer in safe mode. Turn on the computer and once the COMPAQ screen clears press F8 a few times - don't hold down the key however. Winodws stops loading at teh Startup Options screen (black, text only). From that menu use the cursor keys and ENTER to select "Safe Mode". Once Windows loads (it may look humungous!), login as the Administrator (which should now be visible). Use this account to reset your forgotten user password. Restart once complete - the computer will automatically start normally.

power the computer off.

turn it back on - tap f8 to access the boot menu

select safemode

choose administrator

once windows boots up open users under the control panel - reset your password

If u r using Windows xp den press CTRL ALT DEL At a time u will get a window user name and password
there in user name type Administrator and if u hav given admin password while instaling giv that r else just enter
it wil log on and den u right click on My Computer and go to Manage
there u see users and Accounts double click on it and click on users there u see your user name just right click on ur user name and set password .

Are you talking about windows password or system password? On windows password that is easy. During startup press F8 and it will ask to boot into safe mode. Go to control panel and creat a new user and password and write it down, then delete the one you have trouble with.

If it is the system password, that another story you will have to take it to a shop where the will take it apart and do what is called a cmos reset password. It is located on the motherboard, very tricky to do and should not be done by unexperience person. Otherwise you can damage the main board.

u can solve it frm windows safe mode when ur computer start immediatly press F8 for 3-4 times
a new windows open
in it select safe mode...
after startin windows u can make a new account by doin dis..
start>control panel>user account>creat a new account..
den restart urs computer u can acces urs computer..

or u can also try dis when urs password dailog box comes press ctrl+alt+del a new dailog box open in it dere is user name and password

type ADMINISTRATOR as user name
nd type ADMINISTRATOR as password....

I got the following from the windows help and support:

OPTION 1
Using a password reset disk is the best solution.

1. If you have typed the wrong password, you'll get a message that says your user name or password is incorrect. When this message appears, click OK.
   
2. Click Reset password, and then follow the instructions.
   

OPTION 2

If there is another administrator account on the computer, that administrator can change the password for the account you can't remember the password for. If you do this, however, you will lose access to any encrypted files, encrypted e‑mail messages, and passwords stored on this account. If you don't have encrypted files or stored passwords, then this option will work for you


OPTION 3

If you don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows. In this case, you will need to re-install Windows.
