It is unlikely that a manual tilt steering column will work as a replacement for a power tilt steering column in your 2004 Nissan Maxima. The power tilt steering column is likely to have additional wiring and components that are not present in the manual tilt steering column, such as a motor or actuator that allows the steering wheel to be adjusted electronically.
Furthermore, the mounting and attachment points for the two types of steering columns are likely to be different, so even if the manual tilt steering column could be installed, it may not fit correctly or be compatible with other components in the vehicle.
It is recommended to purchase a replacement steering column that is specifically designed for your vehicle, with the same type of tilt mechanism (power or manual) and compatible with other components in the vehicle.
First.. Hit the steering wheel/horn, see if it stops, even momentarily, or just once. If it does, you found the problem. It's in the steering wheel. You'll need a owners manual. To find a owners manual. Go to mercury.com/ownersmanual.
Contact a local auto salvage yard, they have books and software that shows this type of part cross over information. In general the steering columns used by a manufacturer are used in all of the models with differences in the switches and steering wheels mostly.
Since the switch is in the column you have to partially disassemble the steering column. Remove the air bag and the steering wheel and you can get to the switch; the wiring harness for it runs down the column. This is not a beginner DYI job; you do need a couple of specialty tools for it. I would suggest this job is best left to the shop of your choice.
First check the air pressure in both front tires; if they don't match, that can cause the problem. If they do match take it back to the dealer that fixed it and take them for a drive with them driving it. Once they see the problem, tell them to fix it.
there is a air bag in the steering wheel that needs to be disconnected, and you will need a steering wheel puller . you can rent one from any part store
NO ............UNLESS YOU ARE LUCKY TO HAVE A JACK SOCKET IN THE REAR , YOU WOULD ALSO NEED A DIFFERENT HARNESS ADAPTOR TO HOOK IT UP FOR USE WITH A REMOTE
It sounds like your steering cable is rusted in the eng steering bracket or your cable has gone south (Rust) try some heat to free it up and if that dont work its time for a new cable
it ois always better to replace your current part with either a used, a new OEM part, or a new aftermarket compatible part it will save you alot of frustration and money in the long run. please rate this solution
