After i hit the middle button to turn on my ipod nano, they stop working but when i plug it into a cpu it acts fine. no the lock is not on it, and yes i have reset it.

you connected ipod with some high energy source or tried to provide a high energy from it e.g you connnected it with speakers,or head phones other than ipod. ipod works fine when attached to computer because it acts as an usb device at that time. go to Ipod shop and replace a chip inside it which is blown

Press and hold the center button while pressing down on the menu buttton. The Apple logo will appear. This will reboot your Ipod.

If that doesn't work, restore your Ipod to factory settings by plugging your Ipod into Itunes and select restore to factory settings from you Ipod settings in Itunes.
