remove your simcard from phone then try to clean your phone simcard compartment and simcard with white soft cloth, put your simcard back into phone, and always protect your phone from dust replace your phone casing or other parts if its broke
1st, try to clean pin of simcard, you cau use eraser, or maybe simcard ic problem. If you set drop it before, by using soldering iron, Solder with a lot at the end of the soldering iron tip, place on the surface of the ic, the process must be done carefully. never press the soldering tip, leave a lot of Solder is the press. but remember, you need to apply some sim Solder flux in the IC. If the problem is still not finished, then you need to change sim ic new.
the following are the possible things 1 . check the direction in which it is inserted. 2. clean the sim card holder if any dirt is accumulated . 3 . check whether the sim card registration is failed. 4. insert a small paper above the simcard if its loose
This is happening because when the Sim card is not inserted you cannot access the menu of the phone some nokia phones(including yours) are built that way.
Some nokia phones do not need a sim card for you to access the phone menu (e.g 5130,5230), while you can only view the demo of some nokia phones (e.g 1208, 1600) without a sim card
sometimes it is as simple as cleaning the sim card and sim points on the phone with a pencil eraser. sometimes it is related to a simcard IC (usually placed close to the sim tray in the phone) so if u do not succeed cleaning the sim and sim points of the phone u need to change the simcard IC
you need to free the network from the phone (unlock it) you can download xss++ for about 3 dollars and do yours and your mates providing you have the USB cable that came with the phone. Failing that you would have to go to a back street phone repair shop where they will charge you a small fortune
