I am working on an Acer AM5641-E5620A. Something has happened to this computer and the hard drive has been wiped out. I need to reinsall Windows but cannot. I believe it is related to a RAID system used on this computer. I don't have the original Recovery disks and cannot make them using this computer since I can't start it.

Not sure what version of Windows you're trying to install or what you mean by "cannot install windows" but it is possible that Windows 7 and lower might not have drivers if there's a special hard drive controller in that model.

Assuming you can't install windows because you cannot see the hard drive, You might need to download the driver for the storage controller/hard drive controller for your exact model on another computer and put it on a USB disk. When you're getting to the part where it's asking where to install windows look for Load Driver, and choose your USB disk.

If all works out, you should then see the hard drive and then can install windows.

SOURCE: Need Drivers

Here's the URL for downloading Acer drivers. The audio drivers for XP are down near the bottom. Probably the first Realtek one will be what you want.

SOURCE: Having problem installing Windows XP on My Acer Aspire T650 Computer

Before you did the install did you make sure that you set your CMOS setting to check for a cd disk first before booting straight to the hard drive? When you do an install, you must make sure that the computer knows to look for a bootable disk otherwise it will look for an operating system to boot to first. If this is the problem, after you have installed your operating system you must go back and reset your CMOS settings to look for a hard drive or operating system. Hope this help and if it doesn't let me know for further assistance.

SOURCE: I need a recovery disk

You can use a hard drive imaging program such as Norton Ghost to create a recovery DVD(s). Norton Ghost is available as part of System Works or as a stand alone program. Power Quest's Drive Image is also an alternative, however it is too old to be compatible with Vista - you could do a Drive Image outside of Windows - booting off the Floppy.

SOURCE: how can do i clear my hard drive and reinstall windows

You can launch Acer eRecovery Management in a number of ways:
By pressing the hotkey <Alt> + <F10> during the boot-up process, or at any
time when you are running Microsoft® Windows®.
This will open the Acer eRecovery Management main page.
Password
Acer eRecovery Management requires a password to activate. The default
password is six zeros (0s).
Note: If an incorrect password is entered three times, Acer
eRecovery Management closes and returns to Windows®
automatically.
System recovery
Step 1: Click on “Recovery actions”.
Step 2: You are presented with a list of available options
CHOOSE-->Recover system from CD/DVD backup
If you choose to restore from an image on an optical disk, the BIOS will be
changed to boot from the optical drive. If no backup disk is found, you are
prompted to insert the disk.
Reinstall
IF THOSE DISKS DONT WORK , YOU CAN ALWAYS RESTORE TO FACTORY SPEC FROM THE HIDDEN PARTITION ON YOUR HARDDRIVE.
Hope this helps you out .. Regards

SOURCE: Replacement harddrive into acer pc

No matter what you do, you need to partiton and format the drive and install an OS, be it with the Acer recovery disks or with an original XP install disk. You will need to boot from your CD drive to install the OS, if your drive is not bootable you will need to boot from a floppy and load drivers for the CD drive. Brand and model of acer aspier am5641-b5560

If I understood you well, the XP OS installed on WD IDE HDD belongs to another computer, in this case you cannot simply install it on your Acer computer and expect it to boot without problems because the hardware is different. What you can do in this case is a fresh Windows installation.

What type or brand of hard drive do I have to get to install in Acer AM5641 Desktop ? I want to upgrade to a 1 tb hd.

You currently have a 320GB 7200-rpm SATA II hard drive, with 8MB cache install on a base package of your make and model of computer. I would recommend a hard drive like Samsung Spinpoint F4EG 2 TB Internal hard drive. You can find it roughly for $70.00 - $90.00 at online stores like amazon, new egg, etc.

I hope this helps.

I have a acer aspire one zg5 aoa 150 and the screen changes colors and the external monitor does not work passed windows screen. i reinstaled the bios with no change and the reinsalled the vidio driver...

Interesting one, if it has been recovered to factory state then the only thing that I can think of is to try swapping the RAM. If this is a hardware fault I have never seen anything like it.
It looks like it is running some sort of video checking program which it fails to complete.
Have you tried booting it up in safe mode without the other monitor attached?

My acer laptop turns on, then tells me to contact the systems administrator. If I try to continue it shuts down. at one time I recall reading that the files have been currupied. is there anything I can...

It sounds like the Windows boot files have become corrupted. That could happen for several reasons, but if you're willing to just reformat/reload the operating system, we're only concerned with one of those reasons.

There are some viruses that can corrupt boot files. If that's what happened, then reformatting/reloading the OS will take care of it.

On the other hand, it could be that your hard drive may be failing. When you reformat/reload, the Windows system will tell you if it finds errors on the drive.

The following is from the Acer manual for your machine as to how to access the BIOS and enable a hard disk recovery:

To activate the BIOS utility, press during the POST; while the notebook PC
logo is being displayed.

Boot sequence

To set the boot sequence in the BIOS utility, activate the BIOS utility, then select
Boot from the categories listed at the top of the screen. [You should set the CD/DVD drive to be the first boot device, in case you need to reload from a DVD]

Enable disk-to-disk recovery

To enable disk-to-disk recovery (hard disk recovery), activate the BIOS utility,
then select Main from the categories listed at the top of the screen. Find D2D
Recovery at the bottom of the screen and use the and keys to set this
value to Enabled.

[End of manual quote]

If you're not able to restore from the hidden partition on the hard drive, which may happen if the drive is damaged, then you'll have to try to restore using a Windows DVD.

Hope that's helpful.

I CAN'T FIND THE RIGHT DRIVERS FOR THE MOTHERBOARD OF MY COMPUTER

That motherboard is made by Palit, their model N73PV. Drivers are here at Palit's site. (The SATA drives should work without any special drivers. You only need to install RAID drivers if you're going to use RAID configuration. Clear your CMOS and make sure the BIOS is setup correctly.)

When i power up my acer aspire3623 wxci don't start windows xp

Hi paunerv,

There's a couple of things you can try.

First - check the cables to the hard drive. Make sure the both ends are inserted properly (to hard drive and motherboard). And after you check it, boot the pc and see what happens. If this does not work, try next step.

Second - Get into Bios and set the settings to default (it may be F9), save settings and boot the computer and see happens.

Try that. If that does not work then, diffinitely there is something wrong with the hard drive.

Hope that helps and good luck.
