WRT54G2 wired desktop fine, can't connect to wireless.

WRT54G2 functioning, looks to be broadcasting but no wireless devices can connect. Re-started several times, changed password but no joy. Ipod & wireless notebook cannot connect, desktop that is wired through the router is connecting fine & wireless devices detect signal but cannot join even with correct password. Thoughts?

Hi Seth6025,

Try without using Wireless Encryption (password).

Try changing channels; default is 6; try 1 or 11.
Change your SSID: personalize it
SSID broadcast: Enable

Check the advanced wireless settings and make sure MAC filtering - DISABLED.

Reset the Linksys router by pressing RESET for 30 seconds should everything fails and re-configure. Firmware is another consideration BUT this is just a new release.

Regards,

Angel

This worked for me : Try changing channels; default is 6; try 1 or 11. I had channel 11 out of 13, and moved to number 10 and then connection was succesful; then I changed it back to 11 and works like a charm. Thank you for your solution.

Show me how to connect linksys wireless

Hi

The Router configuration is not that much difficult, only few thing you have sure,
1) Correct ADSL Connection User name & password,
2) Chose unique ip address in All host.

Follow the mention bellow instruction to configure and connect to Wifi Router,

  • Plug the network cable ( Mine was Blue ) which comes with the Router Box pack to your computer. The other end goes into any of the Router Ethernet Port ( 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 )
  • Now type in 192.168.1.1 in IE or Firefox or any browser. You will prompted for password which is admin. You must be logged into Linksys Router.
  • Now since your ADSL modem is also having the same IP , we will change the IP address for WRT54G2 Router to 192.168.5.1
  • Under Setup >Basic Setup look for Network Setup and Change Router IP. Change to 192.168.5.1 and Save changes.
  • Since the IP has changed you will need to close the Browser.
  • Sometimes the IP doesnt change automatically. Do a IPCONFIG / RELEASE and then IPCONFIG / Renew

Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless router unable to connect to Internet

Try again by Disabling the WEP (or WPA), MAC Address Filtering and Firewall Setting Individually. Should be a problem with one of those. Then when you receive the Signals, try to Adjust using Bottom Up method. That means one setting at a time, Hardening the Security. Have you checked your DNS settings? Have you checked the Channels you are using? Re check them and try again.

Wireless network has disappeared.

After resetting it (pressing that inset button with a paperclip or pencil), try connecting to it with a wire (cat5 network patch cable). Login with the default of no username and "admin" password. If that doesn't work, it hasn't been reset yet (unless the manual tells you otherwise). Make sure the wireless is enabled AND that the SSID is set to broadcast, not remain hidden.

Windows vista laptop lost connection to the internet

Start off simple. Try a different port on the router. If that doesn't work, try a new cable. If that doesn't work, go to the Device Manager in Windows. (Right-click My Computer, select Manage, go to Device Manager). Does the card look okay? Has it been disabled or need a driver update? If we're still looking at issues then I would take a look at your router security. How many DHCP licences do you allowed to be assigned? Also do you have security in place (WEP/WPA, Mac Filtering, SSID Broadcast)? If you are light on security and only have a few assignable DHCP licences, you may have neighbors leeching your internet access.

To clarify: DHCP assigns a network IP address to each device on its network. Most Linkys routers have a default of 10, you may have reduced this yourself. If you have, you've limited the # of devices allowed on the network. So if you have 3 DHCP licenses available, and a couple neighbors are leeching, your Dell may not get assigned an ip.

If you still need further help, let me know.

try this...

Make sure you have wireless enabled on your router and on the laptop. For the router, on your desktop open a web browser.Type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. The default user name is blankand the password is admin. This will log you into your router. Oncelogged on, click on the wireless tab. Make sure that wireless isenabled and you have an SSID (also known as a Network ID). Also, makesure SSID broadcast is enabled. When this info is verified and set upyou can close the web browser.

Now move to the laptop. Click once on the network icon on the taskbar (the 2 computer monitors by the clock). Select "Connect or disconnect..." When the window comes up, select your wireless connection.
