My gateway netbook will not connect to the internet. it keeps saying limited or no connectivity but the wireless connection i have it on is perfectly fine

If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wirelessconnection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptopprobably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and thenclick Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless cardon the laptop.

Are you connecting to a router? Yes, if it is wireless, you'll need to make sure that the router has internet connectivity. if other computers connected to the same router can connect with the internet then there's something wrong with your computer's network configuration. You can copy the network setting from a working computer connected to the same router such as the gateway IP address and proxy settings and use the same settings on your computer..

use the console to check for internet connectivity. Sometimes, virus may infiltrate browser internet connection so better check using RUN>CMD and type "ping yahoo.com"

Please check in the Network connection whether the Connection status shows Limited/Local only.
If in case the it shows Limited Only, then follow the steps:
1) Unistall Network Driver and restart then Reinstall the Network Driver.
2) Installed Updated Driver from the Manufacture Site. restart.
3) This should resolve the issue. If the connection status show Connected/ Internet. Then Configure the Wireless connection, by accessing the Router. Check the Router configuration and computer's configuration,.

1) try turning off and restarting the modem and router.
2) if you are using a dsl connection check if the modem is in bridge mode with your isp.
if yes then
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\192.168.1.1
check if the router is set to connection type as pppoe.
enter your usernaem and password and save the internet light will go on.

if the modem is not in bridge mode then try connecting you pc directly with the modem and check if the internet is working not not. if not contact your isp for settings.
if internet is working fine.
not connect your router to your modem and then your router to your computer.
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\192.168.1.1
check if the router is set to optain ip automatiicaly and save changes.
if you still face any issue let me know.

If you are trying to connect wirelessly to PC than check the ip address after it says connected. If the ip address is correct than try to ping the default gateway(To check the default gateway, Click Start-> Run-> ipconfig. You will get the default gateway), 4.2.2.2 and yahoo.com.

check the configuration of your laptop. use another laptop to check the wireless configuration if its working in another laptop...check all possible setting of your laptop..make it fault all if needed

Replace the Cable and Check.

If the problem still persists then

Give the same network setting to the wireless network adapter as you assigned to your local area connection.

Note: Before doing that remove the IP address of that Local area connection or change it's IP address to some other number.

This will most probably solve your problem.

Otherwise, Used an external USB Wireless Adapter.

"limited connectivity" normally comes up when u type in wrong wireless network key. check the correct wireless password

On internet explore type 192.168.2.1 into the web address bar and click enter. If it says not connected in the top right corner then run through the setup again.

I have an answer for you.your comp is loosing the IP address.connect your computer through cable then goto start - programmes - accessories - dos prompt. type ipconfig.you`ll get ip address,subnet mask,default gateway.copy it. goto network and sharing center in vista and network connection under control panel in XP,IN Vista,click on view status,goto properties and double click on internet protocol(tcp/ip) or IPv4In XP,right click wireless network connection and goto properties and double click on internet protocol(tcp/ip).type in the IP address,subnet mask,default gateway.in DNS server address type the default gateway in primary DNS and in secondary 4.2.2.2. your connection won`t drop after this.
