We have a fairly new B&D iron Cat # D2030 1. How does the "cleaning' work. The iron started to leak during ironing and it indicates "Cleaning". Do we need to do anything?. An excellent iron....but. RegardsE Mcgrath

"Clean" designation comes on when iron is plugged in. Since I misplaced the manual, I don't know if the "Clean" designation is something that comes on automatically when the iron is due to be cleaned, or if I pressed something inadvertently to cause this to happen. In either case, how do I clean the iron and/or get rid of the "clean" designation. The iron will not operate properly as long as this designation continues to appear.

Make a solution of half water and half white vinegar. Fill up your iron and get it good and hot then let it sit a couple hours. flush out and repeat as necessary. Hope you find this helpful. Please give me a fixya rating If this works for you. It works very well as long as it is not completely filled with scale. Once you have it
good and clean By a gallon of bottled water at the market and use that for your Iron and you will never have a scale problem again. I learned how to do this 20 years ago from a 80 year old woman from england. If it is really bad you can up
the vinegar concentration but do not go higher than 2 cup to 1.

My iron is getting hot but giving no steam can anyone advise

If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents (see below) and flush sediment out of the steam chamber (see below).
If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the electrical cord . Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat .
If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle (see below).
If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.
If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.

Hi, I have a Black & Decker digital Evolution iron. It has worked fine in the past but now when I turn it on to any temp setting it starts flashing #8 and beeping. I have never seen the #8 on it...

Hello,

Try this cleaning procedure:
Empty the iron's reservoir.
Fill the reservoir halfway with white vinegar.
Set iron to steam setting.
Steam on a cotton rag allowing the vinegar to clean the holes in the soleplate.

If this cannot be performed, or does not work,
at Black & Decker's normal price point, it is simply easier to dispose and purchase new.

Best regards,

It leaks water when I iron sometimes staining my clothes with black streaks or water stains.

Hello :

1:Clean your steam iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Your iron is more likely to leak when it has not been cleaned properly. Plus, the water that leaks from a steam iron that hasn't been cleaned will likely be dirty and stain your fabric. Every steam iron brand is different, so be sure to check the manual that came with your iron or browse the manufacturer's website for instructions on keeping your steam iron in good working order.

2:Use your steam iron on a rigid surface like an ironing board. In a rush, you might be tempted to quickly iron a blouse or pants on the nearest available surface like a bed, carpet or even on a table with a towel draped over it. However, these surfaces may not provide the proper amount of level padding for successful steam ironing, and leaks are more likely to occur. Take the time to set up your ironing board for smooth steam ironing to reduce water leaks on a bumpy surface.

3:Allow your steam iron to heat fully in the upright position before ironing. Because your steam iron is designed to convert water into steam that will easily smooth out wrinkles on bulky fabrics, you can avoid leaks by ensuring your iron has time to get the water to the correct temperature. If you lay your steam iron in the horizontal position too quickly, water that is not hot enough to convert to steam will leak. Give the iron a chance to heat up, and then test your steam function on your ironing board cover or spare fabric swatch before tacking your favorite blouse.

4:Turn off the steam function on your iron when ironing at lower temperatures. Since your iron's steam function is designed to convert the water in your iron to steam at the right temperature, lower iron temperatures can cause water to leak if your steam setting is still activated. For ironing more delicate fabrics, turn off the steam to avoid water leaks.

Here's a solution . . . Do NOT buy ROWENTA! I've had 3 Rowenta irons. All of them have eventually began to dump water out of the base. . . heck, the Titanic didn't leak as much as a Rowenta iron!

Clean instructions for a sunbeam iron model 3051-033.

rinse the inside with white vinegar. Clean the bottom with store bought iron cleaner they are fairly inexpensive and work good. Be careful esp since alot of irons have teflon on the bottom you do not want to scratch this coating if you have it.

My Braun Si 3120 Optistyle Iron is leaking water from steam holes

Scale buildup is unseating the rubber seal. Disassemble the iron. (Water filler hole part pulls directly forwards and can be pushed out from behind with a screwdriver.) Otherwise it's fairly straightforward. Clean scale off baseplate. Seal with silcone gasket before reassembly.

Rowenta DM880 Auto shutoff - Shuts off too frequently

This is a problem with a lot of Rowenta irons. It is the auto shut off that is not working properly and the only way to fix it is to have it disassembled and the switch hardwired to be on whenever the iron it plugged in. It is a thermal metal switch and it just stops working and then the iron will not turn on and the yellow light blinks.
