My S700 will display video clips perfectly on the built-in screen but they download through the cable now in B&W only, and the "vertical hold" is off (the bottom of the picture appears at the top of the TV screen, with a thick dividing line). Could this problem be adjusted out or would I need a whole new circuit board? The camera has never been dropped, etc.

Pavilion DV4 screen wont turn on.(Overnight problem)

Since you have graphics on an external monitor, the problem is the Video Cable, or inside the Display Assembly.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3860431&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

This is a general example of a Video Cable, (Display Cable - HP), for an HP Pavilion DV4 series of Notebook PC,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ORIGINAL-HP-PAVILION-DV4-LAPTOP-LCD-VIDEO-CABLE-DC02000IO00-486878-001-14-1-/281038275215?pt=US_Laptop_Screens_LCD_Panels&hash=item416f2fc28f

Mouse over to enlarge

The Video Cable connects to the motherboard in an area under the Keyboard, (About where the Fn key is), routes up along the motherboard, then routes up through the left Hinge, and into the Display Assembly.

From there it connects to the screen Inverter (Display Inverter -HP), and back of LCD screen.
It also connects to the LED backlight.

Either connections are loose, or the Video Cable (Display Cable) is damaged.
If the sheath of the cable shows apparent visual damage, so may be the tiny wires inside. (Stretched/Broken)

Connections CANNOT just be visually determined if they are loose.
You MUST physically check EACH connection.

Tightening connections does no good?
Perform a continuity test with a multimeter set to OHM's, on every wire in that Video Cable.

Have an assistant gently wiggle the cable in the middle, and check for an intermittent reading on the multimeter. Indicates broken wire if intermittent reading shows.

OR,

Take Video Cable to the nearest small computer store, and have the resident tech check it for continuity. Should just be a couple of bucks.

Use an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source. (Electro Static Discharge)
Average cost is around $3 to $6.

Page 92 (PDF page at Top) for motherboard side of Video Cable (Display Cable - HP)

Page 80 for LCD screen, and Screen Inverter (Display Inverter - HP), and LED backlight.

Page 82 has false statements.

Remove the display assembly:

1. Locate the wireless antenna cable (1), and remove from path (2)

Should be;
Locate the DISPLAY CABLE (1), and remove from path (2)

2. Disconnect the wireless antenna cable from the system board (3)

Should be;
2. Disconnect the DISPLAY CABLE from the system board (3)

Somebody was on crack that day.

The wireless antenna cable information that follows, is correct.

Video Cable (Display Cable) is on the Left side.
Wireless Antenna wires are on the Right side.

There are multi colored vertical lines on LCD Screen going to a total black screen. Laptop connected is to an external monitor = normal display on the external monitor I removed and reinsert the video...

Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to get a new cable as Toshiba will not sell OEM replacement parts to anyone but an authorized repair center.

This may just as likely be a problem with the sockets/plugs as with the cable itself, as they are rather fragile. It may be worth spending a few bucks for a used cable just to see if it will solve your problem. Also be sure that the thin plastic shim found on the top of most of these cable ends is still there, as they can come off rather easily, and the lack of it will cause a poor connection.

Your other alternatives are (1) Toshiba repair center, or (2) using the external monitor.

Hope that's helpful.

My camera cyber shotdsc-s700 dont have sound when makind movie clips

It could be that you need a video player on your computer that supports the audio codec used by Sony.
I suggest that you download and install VLC on your computer and use that to play your videos instead:

Display on my Dell 710M has started having vertical lines on half the screen. everthing else fine. need new display?

Vertical lines on half the screen:
Usually the display ribbon cable or the LCD display. At the shop we find out replacing ribbon cable first.
In some rare occasion it can be the display adapter built on the motherboard. You can test the video adapter connecting the laptop to an external display.

Sound not recorded during movie making

Sony DSC-S700 can record voice in video clips but you can listen sound of clip by exporting it to computer and playback there.
Camera has no built-in speaker to playback sound.

Dark Grey Vertical Bar

1. try connecting laptop to an external monitor and check if this vertical dark gray bar appears. if yes it means video is the problem. you need to boot in safe mode then uninstall the video driver. boot to notmal mode then download and install the latest video driver. if still same problem then replace video card. if video is built in with motherboard you need to replace motherboard.

2. when the vertical dark gray bar did not appear in the external monitor then it means issue is with the LCD panel. Do this turn off laptop. press and hold D key then press Power button at the same time or Press and hold on the Fn key then Power button check if the test will run. Color displays full screen when you keep pressing on N key when the colors appears check the vertical dark gray bar if still exist in the test, this means LCD panel and LCD cable needs to be replaced.
