Proper refrigerant levels for Amana Side by Side refrigerator

What is the proper refrigerant level and or suction and head pressures for an Amana 22 cu. ft side by side refrigerator?

    Total waste of time and money! Any service person should know that R-22 is not used in refrigerators. Get your information right before claiming to be an expert! I found the information free of charge by doing a little more digging on the internet - maybe you should try it also

Hi, normally the suction pressure on a refrigerant -22 system will be between 60 pounds gauge pressure (which keeps it above freezing point) and about 80 pounds. This depends on the temperature condition.Make sure that the superheat and subcooling are correct to see what is to be considered normal for the conditions you have present.

    What I need to know is how many ounces is the required amount of refrigerant. This unit uses 134a and I need to know what the suction pressure should be. The solution you gave me is of no value to me.

Low refrigerant levels can cause ice build-up on your AC unit. If refrigerant levels drop, the refrigerant pressure inside your evaporator coil drops below freezing and thus the coils ice up because humidity freezes on the coils. The refrigerant pressures need to be checked and refrigerant added to achieve proper cooling without ice building on the coils.

The correct way is to evacuate the system,pull a vacuum then charge with a refrigerant scale.
In lieu of that you can charge by pressure and get close.
Normal operating pressure would be 68 psi on the suction side and about 225/275 on the high side.
You do have to calculate the outdoor and indoor ambient temperature.
At your 75 degree outdoor air a low side pressure of 60 psi or higher would be acceptable.
Your 30/130 is too low.
Add more refrigerant.

Make certain the indoor coil is clean and the fan motor is working correctly.
Have the leak repaired.

How do you check to see if the high side is leaking back into the low side on a scroll compressor suction pressure is 90psi R-22 suction line is warm but not hot

90 psi is very high for R22....low for R410 refrigerant. If leaking by the head pressure and suction pressure will be close to to the same reading

Your refrigerator has a drain that leads to the exterior drain pan beneath the refrigerator. Occasionally this drain can become clogged resulting in standing water inside your refrigerator. A similar drain exists in the freezer, which when clogged results in ice build up on the floor of the freezer.

The drain is located either on the floor of the refrigerator, beneath the vegetable crisper, or in the wall behind a drain funnel.

Clear the drain by forcing a solution of water and bleach or water and baking soda into it with a basting syringe. If the solution will not flow through, slide a length of ¼ inch flexible tubing into the drain tube to push the clog through to the drain pan. Remove the tubing after clearing the clog.

NOTE-(This may be a leveling issue as well)

It is important for the refrigerator to be level. If it is not level, doors may not open or close properly and may not seal tightly. Also, drainage from the defrost cycle might be impaired as might the ice making cycle. The appliance was engineered based on it being installed in a level position. While there may be some tolerance for out-of-level installation, the appliance will operate at its best when properly leveled.

Place a level on top of the refrigerator near the front. Do not put it on the door because the door may not be aligned with the refrigerator case. Check that the refrigerator is level from side to side. Next turn the level to check that it is level from front to back.

If it is not level, adjust one or more of the adjustable leveling feet until it is level. The feet are bolts that can be turned to raise or lower the refrigerator. If they cannot be adjusted with your fingers, use a crescent wrench or pliers.

If you have an ice-maker, it should also be checked for level after first leveling the refrigerator. An ice-maker that is out of level will spill water into the ice bin or into the freezer. It can be repositioned by loosening the mounting screws, adjusting it for level and then re-tightening the screws.

Operating pressures for 134A refrigerant system

I would go for 40 on the suction and 150 discharge, or divide the locked rotor current by 6 and charge so the current is 1/6 of the locked rotor current of the compressor, or by temperature/pressure relation 110* discharge and 35* suction, or get the suction line sweating. The best way is to remove all the refrigerant and then weigh the refrigerant the system is designed for on these critical charge appliances.
