The light is supposed to be on, it indicates 2 things

1) When it is being accessed
2) The amount of data on it. The ring glows more when it is getting full.

Describe your Western Digital 250GB MyBook External USB 2.0 250 GB Hard Drive Problem Do you have a picture of the voltage and amperage adapter for the Western Digital 250GB MyBook External HD ?

I don't have a photo of the AC adapter, but if you look on it the Voltage and Amperage specifications are;

Input: 100-240VAC / 50~60Hz
Output: 12VDC / 2A

This means the Input power can be from 100 volts to 240 Volts AC, and at 50 to 60 Hertz

The Output power is 12 Volts DC at no more than 2 Amp's. (Amperes)

Asian Power Devices Inc. has a model DA-24B12 that fits these specs.
Also a Wattac AC adapter model number - BAO362Zl-8-A01 will work.

Otherwise just use a 12 Volt, 2 Amp power pack, with a positive on center contact, and a 2mm pin hole

Mybook WD25001032 is no longer recognized by my computer. how do I recover the data.

Disassemble the enclosure, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter. Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, and see if you can access the files.

I used my usb hard disk but I cannot access it

Try it on another USB and if no luck on another computer. If another computer recognizes it try reinstalling your chipset drivers.
