It is on the transmission, towards the output housing. Normally close to the pan on the side. It should have a round steel cover held on with either a metal clip or a few bolts.

1417 mercedes benz not engaging gears

With the engine running and the clutch pressed all the way down try each gear in turn and listen. Do you get any crunching or grinding noises? Nasty noises on gear changes with the clutch fully pressed is commonly a sign of a badly worn clutch. No noises suggests linkage problems or an issue inside the transmission itself.
On a manual transmission you start at the gear stick and work down to the actual transmission. First check the links on the gearstick under the floor. Then follow those cables down to the transmission and check the linkages at that end. Sometimes a worn or loose linkage bush can cause loss of gears. Next check the arms and levers on the outside of the transmission itself. Work it by hand feeling and listening for it "Clunking" as it drops into all the gears. If it doesnt feel solid and 'notchy' the issue could be inside the transmission itself. You'll need a gearbox specialist to look at it for that issue.

2000 Honda Passport 4 X 4, 4L30E trans. Would not shift into 1st when stopping. Replace all solenoid, refilled. Will act like its loading when putting in gear but will not move in any gear.

If your Honda Passport is not moving in any gear after replacing all the solenoids in the transmission, it could be due to a few different reasons. Here are some possible causes:
  1. Low transmission fluid level: Make sure the transmission fluid level is correct and the fluid is not contaminated or burned.
  2. Faulty torque converter: A faulty torque converter could prevent the transmission from engaging, which would cause the vehicle not to move in any gear.
  3. Broken transmission pump: The transmission pump is responsible for creating hydraulic pressure to engage the gears. If the pump is broken or not working correctly, the transmission will not engage.
  4. Failed clutch packs: Clutch packs are used to engage different gears in the transmission. If one or more clutch packs have failed, the transmission will not engage.
It is recommended to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional mechanic to determine the root cause of the issue.

My hyndai Santa Fe idling is usually above 1 before l engage the gears and later drops below 1 after engaging the gears, is this normal

If you are talking about an automatic transmission, then yes it is normal. When you drop it into Drive or Reverse, the torque converter is now mechanically connected to your transmission, which is connected to your driveline, through the fluid inside your torque converter, which creates a drag on the engine, causing the rpms to drop. Hope this helps!

Transmision is not changing gears what could that be?

Stripped govenor gear possibly. Knock off the round cover on the left rear of transmission and pull the governor out, If nylon gear on the end is broken or apple cored replace the gear. Be very careful if you decide to replace govenor the are small differences that make big changes to shift pattern. Also check to make sure the cable that connects to throttle lever from transmission is not broken.
