First connect to xbox live, you will sign out if you test your connection settings/network settings prior to signing in/connecting. once connected if you suffer any problems its almost due to xbox or microsoft. I hope this works. Good Luck.
Ok you wrote it on the 16 so this is my answer. Xbox Live Is Down For Today Jun 16 starting at 12:01 AM and may last up to 24 hours, was what my xbox said on the "fix my connection screen.
Either go to Xbox.com and sign into your account that way. Which I hope you registered your account with an email or password if you didn't then you wont be able to sign in. I always buy the 1 year + 1 month free cards that is like 45 bucks from my local gaming store which is very helpful. If you can't find a way to sign in and change the information to the other credit card then Im afraid you will have to make a new gamertag.
Do you have your xbox upright? or flat? as I have came accross this problem myself which is usually cured by laying the xbox flat. Don't know if it's gravity related or not. (This is the dvd drive by the way)
As for xbox live, are you signed up for xbox live gold or silver?
Silver doesn't let you play games online only gold does.
