In your HDD has a Virus that virus is diliting your files so befor you loos your more file just copy all file from you HDD and copy in safe place then formate you HDD then only you can recove you lost files what u do
1st copy all files then fomate your HDD and after that you can recove your all file by using recovery software
There are two possible reasons:
1. Your computer might have been compromised by a virus or a rootkit. You need to run an anti rootkit and anti virus to be able to stop this problem. or
2. Your hard disk may have some bad sectors that needs to be repaired. Try to run chkdsk -r to do a repair.
Disappearing file is a result of a bad sector on a harddrive or if the usb drive was unlpug in the middle of writing the file. In your case, it looks like your external HDD is failing.

Download the free data recovery software at http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download and scan your external drive and see if your missing files are still there. If you recently added files to the drive, there is chance that you already overwrite the sector where your missing files are located. If you don't then there is a big chance that you will recover the files.

Message me if you need help with downloading, installing and using the data recovery software.
can you give me more details... what operating system (Windows XP, Vista, 7) you have on both computers. do you have switch/router in between your computers or are you connecting directly using crossover cable?
Click "Start" > "Run" > type "cmd" then enter. Type "chkdsk X: /F /R" where "X" is your external drive letter. This will check for bad sectors and try to recover readable information. After the scan, a report will be displayed. If there are bad sectors, you may want to consider replacing your drive because the bad sector will grow in time and you will loose more data.
Do you want to just transfer/share files on both computers or do you want to control the other computer remotely from your laptop?
both computers should be in the same workgroup.
Type sysdm.cpl into the start menu search box (quickest)Right-click on the Computer option on the start menu.
Open Control Panel, and go to System and Maintenance, and then System.
If you chose one of the last two options, then you’ll need to click on Advanced System Settings on the left menu. Another screen will pop-up that should say System Properties. Click on the “Change” button and change the Workgroup. Both computers mush have the same workgroup and different Computer names. Click OK.
Now go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
click on Change advanced sharing settings
Change sharing options for different network profiles:
-Turn on network discovery
-Turn on file and printing sharing
-Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read write......
-Turn off password protected sharing (if you want to give access to all users to your public shares)
Save changes. Do this on both machine and you're done.

recovery software isnt seeing the missing file
i have another problem also
i have connected my dads laptop wirelessly to my computer to share files, my computer is the host, the problem is i cannot connect the host to the laptop but the laptop is connected to the computer, so how do i connect to the laptop
Using Cable/Wifi Router to connect,(trying to) connecting to laptop wirelessly
Computer is using Windows 7 Ultimate
Laptop is using Windows 7 Home Premium
in Remote settings the computer has three options below the part where remote assistance is turned on/off
the laptop doesnt have these settings, all it has is Remote Assistance on/off
The Computer can see that the laptop is on the network but says that the device is unnavailable on the network, make sure its turned on and remote assistance is turned on, blah blah, is it because it doest have the three settings below Remote Assistance on/of? Because at that exact same moment the laptop is communicating with the computer wirelessly without a problem
the options that are missing from the laptop are:
1.Dont allow connections to this computer
2.Allow conections from computers using any version of Remote Desktop (currently selected)
3.Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop With Network Level Authentication
is that why i cannot connect my computer to the laptop? because the laptop doesnt have the option to allow connections?
and if thats the case how can i get them both to communicate with each other? if there is a way
i want to share files between both computers
yeah the main reason for the small home network between laptop and computer is to share files betwen both computers and allow printing from laptop to the printer connected to the main computer, this part works fine, its just getting computer to communicate with laptop that is the problem
both computers are on the same workgroup, both computers have different names and i have followed your post for Advanced sharing options exact, i am still unable to connect my computer to my laptop
only thing i didnt do was turn off the password
update: I have turned of password protected hsaring but have found something interesting, wehn i tell the computer to turn on network discovery and Save changes, if i go bacak into the settings its set to turn network discovery off, everytime i turn network discovery on, it turns itself off, what do i do?
also i have let the chkdsk run on my external HDD and it "found no problems"
tried chkdsk -r on the external and that did not fix it, anti rootkits, anti spyware, anti malware, anti virus are not finding anything on my computer, i guess its just a really bad sector on the external
i guess its just a really bad sector
