I just got an WD Ultra 1TB External Hard drive and I have a question about how it's backup works with WD Smartware. The thing is I've never used an external hard drive before. I understand that it backups everything in the categorizes and each time I run the backup, it makes new copies of the files to be backed up. And the manual says existing files changed in anyway. So, I have a few basic questions 1What I'm wondering is what happens if it backs up a file onto my WD Ultra 1TB External Hard drive from my PC and then I delete that file from my PC? 2 Would it keep the file on the external hard drive or would it be be deleted with the next backup? And what happens if I change a file name? Would WD Smartware recognize it or treat it as a new file?
Usually with an external hard drive it's not necessary for it to copy over an existing backup or at least you can program your PC not to do this. What will happen is you will have several different copies of backup's and you will have to decide if you want to erase the others and keep the most resent one. Yes your file will be saved withing the backup but if you change the file name it will file this as a new file
