NEC TV - How to change language of menu

Hi, I'm looking for instructions on how to change the language of the menu of a NEC FS-5160 TV. We have one of these TVs at our church and someone has changed the language to russian and we are trying to figure out how to change it back to english. I would guess that similar models would have the same solution. Maybe there is a button combination/sequence that will reset the language? We would appreciate suggestions. Regards Shane

I just bought an NEC FS-5160 from a local opportunity store last Friday (July 2, 2010) with the same problem. After a few minutes of fiddling I found the solution:

1. Press 'Menu' button. You will see 'Menu' written in Russian. To the right you will see a number '1' above the the word 'TV' or 'Video'. This is 'Menu 1' or screen 1.

2. Press ONLY the 'Menu' button and the arrow on the left will scroll down. On the fourth press the '1' referred to above will change to a '2' for 'Menu 2' or screen 2.

3. Continue to slowly press the 'Menu' button until 'Memu 3' or screen 3 appears.

4. Press the 'Menu' button twice more and then use the first channel changing button to change the language from Russian to English.

I just got a new smart TV how do I change the language??

Hello, Linda -

I hope your smart TV came with an owner's manual. If so, I suspect the instructions for changing the language (for closed captioning? or menu choices?) are printed there.

Without knowing the make and model of your smart TV, I cannot provide you with instructions specific to your TV. You can add the make and model of your TV by using the Edit feature and adding the information to your question.

Probably the option to change the language will be through pressing the Menu button on the TV remote control. If the choices in the Menu are in another language, then you will need to try all options and make some guesses.

I suggest you visit the web pages of the manufacturer of your TV to find instructions.

How to Change Display Name

There is no option for it on your extension because your "class of service" is not set for it. Probably the only extension set for name change is 301 if the default configuration was not changed.

Lost remote control. can't change language

It is always more difficult to operate the menu features of a tv using the manual buttons on the tv. I recommend you unplug the ac cord of the tv from the wall for a day while you go out and buy a universal remote control. After plugging the tv back in and turning it on initially most television on screen prompts immediately direct you to the set up menu which includes setting the language.

Follow the instructions on the universal remote and program the remote to the tv using the power button on the remote to determine if you have reached the right code. It will then be possible to operate the menu features of the tv via the remote control and thus change the language back to english.
