Working great, then one day, a horrible sound started coming out of it. When you turn it on, it sounds fine. It's when you put it to work the sound comes out (the tighter the suction gets, like when you put your hand over the opening of the hose, the louder it gets). made sure the bag was ok, nothing blocking the hose or opening. Figured out the sound is coming from this small air filter type opening on the back right behind the hose when it's wrapped up. Loud vibrating sound. If you put something over that small area, sound goes away. Also, the vacuum is hardly picking anything up, which is very frustrating. Any ideas? Very expensive vacuum, only used probably 8 times in 6 months before problem started.

- thanks for the thoughts!
Yeah, the hose suction is great. right now i'm actually using the extender tools to vacuum, so that works fine. So, something must be wrong near the roller area, just not sure what. And that loud vibrating sound on the back right occurs whenever the suction is being fully used (like when using the vacuum upright, or when you put your hand over the hose). I wonder if the sound and the lack of suction when upright are related. Just not sure how to troubleshoot.
-   I have the same problem. Seems like something is blocked, but can find no block. Help! I guess the noise is coming from some sort of overpressure valve that kicks in for some reason.-   N in Texas

-   I have this exact same problem - I checked the hose and it is clear - and the filter looks fine - where is the dirt inlet at to check it??-   MomToTwo
How is the suction at the end of the hose. If it is ok, then the problem is by the brush roll. The dirt inlet maybe clogged. If no suction, then either the hose hstill has a clog or a bad filter preventing air flow.
Had the same problem tonight. Took the entire thing apart only to find there was a much simpler solution. Check the small hose that runs from the brush rollers where the longer hose (on the back) attaches to the side of the vacuum. Easiest way to do this is to lay the handle down and stick something (coat hanger worked good) through it until it comes out of the head. I found a pretty good sized fuzz plug in mine. As soon as I removed it, everything worked great again - and no noise!

on my Kenmore Progressive Dircect Drive upright bagged vacuum, one day the motor was working hard, and the thermal overload switch must have triggered. I could not fix the problem by resetting the switch. Could the overload protector have blown out? I have been searching for one ever since. It says Hosiden BC 501

I took my vacuum cleaner apart to clean it because it was clogged inside and now I am having trouble putting it back together. I am looking for a manual of some kind to show me how to assemble it. It is a Kenmore Progressive Model # 11636933502

I'm not sure if it is a worn belt or a worn agitator as mentioned in the instruction book but I'm hoping it's a belt that I can change myself. Can anyone tell me how to access the belt and how to replace it? I don't see what to open to reach the area. Thanks! Eileen
