Yes, it is used, i don`t know what previous work has been carried out on it.

Have you got a smaller front wheel fitted? this will cause a discrepancy.

Is the bike used?Maybe the previous owner changed sprockets and not the speedo gear that goes with it?

If the speedo gear is in the front wheel a different wheel would have different gear and mess up the speedo but I'm thinking the gear wouldn't mesh with the old speedo cable teeth.Check a shop manual for stock number of teeth on rear sprocket and tranny sprocket, that will tell the story. While your at it check the stock wheel size compared with what you got.Of course it could be bad speedo. There's springs in there that run needle, so?Maybe borrow one and try it out.Good luck.

If the battery has been disconnected,it may have been set for the supermoto when it was reconnected.Disconnect the battery, wait 5 minutes or so,then reconnect it,look at the speedo display and it will flash 'endr' or 'mtrd' alternately. When the display shows 'endr' (for enduro) press the blue mode button on the handlebar - problem solved - Simples !

Sounds to me as if you've bleed over between tach and speedo.Maybe a wire cross and touching between the two.Possibly a Faulty pickup on the speedo too.

unfortunatey you may not be able to fix this, speedos generally run from a sensor or cable at the front axle, and rely on the rotating wheel, and are not generally able to be calibrated.

Speedometer - 40MPH

the speedo is electronic, not cable, this problem is caused by a sticking stepper motor that moves the needle, a stepper motor is a miniature electric motor that can move and hold one position, this was a common problem at the dealer I worked at, u will need to pull the speedo and send it out for repair, I use the following link for this service.
