How to remove the starter on a 97 Nissan Sentra GXE

I have a 97 Nissan Sentra GXE. Ive been trying to figure out how to get the starter off to have it replaced. I cant figure out what the best way to go about it is. How do I get to it to take it off?

Unhook the negative battery terminal.
Lift the car.
Slide under the car.
Remove the brace that holds the intake manifold. See photo.
Remove the oil filter. Have a small cup ready to capture 1 ounce of oil.
Unscrew the solenoid power supply from the post. Use pliers.
Unplug the harness from the solenoid socket that comes from the battery. Use a screw driver.
Unscrew the bolt #1 from the bottom of the engine that holds the starter. You will need a 6 inch or longer swivel angle joint. See photo.
From the top of the engine, unscrew the ground wire bolt that runs from the battery to engine housing. It is also the bolt #2 that attaches the starter to the engine housing. You will need a socket extension. See photo.
The starter comes off.
Installation is the reverse of the removal process.

I have a 97 nissan sentra gxe. a/c compressor is out. can i eliminate this belt from the compressor without damaging anything else.

yes just make sure nothing else is engauged with that belt if so you need to replace with a shorter belt to run to the other pullys if the belt only runns to the compresser then you can remove it.. i hope this helps

My car wont start when I turn the key all the lights come on but it just makes a ticking noise.

sounds like a starter solenoid.. better yet check battery ends ive seen many loose or coroded ends cause problems. good luck
