I have a 97 Nissan Sentra GXE. Ive been trying to figure out how to get the starter off to have it replaced. I cant figure out what the best way to go about it is. How do I get to it to take it off?
YOU NEED A HAYNES REPAIR.IT HAS PHOTOS TO SHOW YOU HOW TO REMOVE STARTER.
Unhook the negative battery terminal.
Lift the car.
Slide under the car.
Remove the brace that holds the intake manifold. See photo.
Remove the oil filter. Have a small cup ready to capture 1 ounce of oil.
Unscrew the solenoid power supply from the post. Use pliers.
Unplug the harness from the solenoid socket that comes from the battery. Use a screw driver.
Unscrew the bolt #1 from the bottom of the engine that holds the starter. You will need a 6 inch or longer swivel angle joint. See photo.
From the top of the engine, unscrew the ground wire bolt that runs from the battery to engine housing. It is also the bolt #2 that attaches the starter to the engine housing. You will need a socket extension. See photo.
The starter comes off.
Installation is the reverse of the removal process.
