This may be the refrigerator itself making that hissing noise, which is not uncommon.
Please provide the make and model number for the unit.

I was de icing my fridge with a knife suddenly a hissing sound leaked .is it normal

Now you know why you should never use anything metalic to remove ice.
Always let the ice warm before using a plastic tool to remove it.
Time to purchase a new freezer perhaps as a hiss usually means a puncture.

Like many folks before, I have punctured my freezer while defrosting it with a knife (yes, stupid thing to do). The coolant is hissing out of the freezer right now. The question is: will the fridge still...

Once a hole allows freon to escape, it's usually best to replace the product, as moisture will enter the sealed system and contaminate everything.

If you've punctured a section that allows the refrigerant gas to escape, the following can happen:
1. If you switched the unit off immediately after, then the puncture can be sealed, and the unit 're-gassed'.
2. If the unit was left to run, there is a real possibility that the compressor could sieze, resulting in repair costs that would exceed replacement costs.

The freezer in my mini fridge started making a hissing sound today something stabbed the bottom of it whats going on is it safe to use ?

Hello,

From what you are saying the evaporator got punctured. The hissing was the freon coming out of the unit. The unit will not cool even if it was plugged in.

I was chipping off ice in the freezer compartment and my screw driver made a small hole and there was a hissing sound as the freon escaped.

by the time you have bought/fitted new pipework to this unit you could buy a new one.(pipes are too thin to replace and "loy"(alloy putty)only works for a few weeks.tried it.......next time use an antifreeze spray.....

Have a small leak in my small freezer unit coolant system

Good day,
Gas is not dangerous. But you have a serious problem.
Repair is limited to an epoxy repair, or replacing the coil assembly complete.
A new dryer filter must be brazed in, The system must be vacuumed out, charging ports installed ect, ect, ect.
You can call around to the service companies for a price, but it will be pricey, and you will probably have to take it in.

Not considered to be a practical repair.

Hissing freezer

Hi criago

I am very sorry to say that you have pierced the coolant tubing, the hiss you here is the coolant gas escaping. Your Fridge Freezer may be unrepairable because it is very hard to get into the area concerned.
Sorry to break the news to you.

Electrical noise

If the noise from the compressor sounds like a humming followed by a click, the compressor is "short cycling". Could be either the compressor relay or the compressor itself is bad. Not sure on the hissing noise. Could be just a loose panel that needs to be tightened or adjusted.

Sanyo sr-3620w Poked sensor under freezer tray...hissing sound

More than likely you let the refrigerant out. Is there an oily residue? If so you definitely punctured the evaporator. It's time consuming and expensive to properly repair a standard refrigerator sealed system and maintain the chemical stabilty that will prevent future problems. But with those tiny units priced as they are, it's always cheaper to replace them.
