Remove and replace a (in-tank) electric fuel pump for a 1999 dodge grand caravan...3.8 litre

The fuel filer on a 2006 Dodge Caravan has what is called a fuel sock its locate inside the fuel tank on the fuel pump module and not service item it would only be changed when replacing the fuel pump.

Make sure you are getting power back to the pump. Check fuses. Get out your volt meter. If power, take the line loose on engine and tank side and check for blockage. Use an air hose to clear the line. Don't blow it back into your fuel pump.

disconnect all fuel lines, vacuum lines, electrical connections at the fuel tank. disconnect the fuel filler tube, then support the fuel tank as it will be heavy, unbolt the fuel tank straps and lower the fuel tank. clean the top of the tank so no dirt falls into the tank. undo the tank unit lock ring and remove the tank unit(fuel pump assembly).

The pump is in the gas tank. On some early 90s models you could access the pump thru an access plate without dropping the tank.
Otherwise you have to drop the tank and take the pump out thru the top. If you do replace it, make sure you replace the filter too.

if it completely rest and cool down then turn on fine then get worse when hot until cut off then replace coil

Removal

Remove fuel filler cap and perform Fuel System Pressure Release procedure.

1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Insert fuel siphon hose into fuel filler neck and push it into the tank.
3. Drain fuel tank dry into holding tank or a properly labeled GASOLINE safety container.
4. Raise vehicle on hoist.
5. Use a transmission jack to support the fuel tank. Remove bolts from fuel tank straps. Lower tank slightly.
6. Clean area around fuel tank module and tank to keep dirt and foreign material out of tank.
7. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel pump module by depressing quick connect retainers with thumb and fore finger
8. Slide fuel pump module electrical connector lock to unlock.
9. Push down on connector retainer and pull connector off module.
10. remove plastic locknut counterclockwise to release pump module
11. Carefully remove pump module and O-ring from tank
12. Discard old O-ring.

INSTALLATION

1. Wipe seal area of tank clean and place a new O-ring seal in position on pump.
2. Position fuel pump in tank with locknut.
3. Tighten locknut to 53 N·m (43 ft. lbs.)
4. Connect fuel lines.
5. Plug in electrical connector. Slide connector lock into position.
6. Raise fuel tank, install bolts into fuel tank straps and tighten.
7. Lower vehicle on hoist.
8. Connect negative cable from battery.
9. Fill fuel tank. Check for leaks.
10. Install fuel filler cap.

It is believed that the fuel pump is in the fuel tank, and you have to take the tank off the vehicle to replace it.

Ok to change the fuel pump off the battery ensures that the fuel tank has just disconnect the hoses coming out of the tank, disconnect the hose where the tank is filled, disconnect the electrical cables that connect the gas pump and you can download the tank ... Thanks good luck .......

you have to remove the fuel tank to access the fuel pump module. pump and unit are all one piece

yes it will swap and you have to remove it from the bottom of the van remove the screw/clips from inside the filler door and then from underneth disconect the filler tube ti tank and the vent hose to the tank i belive there is a bracket also holding the filler tube to the body with one bolt then it snakes out of the va r insalating is just reverse
