The dial should come up slowly to just a hair above the center point. This should happen within the first few minutes of driving.

How do I reset the computer after changing the battery in my 2004 mini cooper S? The car started three times. Now it won't start even though all of the other electrics work

Turn off ignition. Press and hold the trip reset button, then turn the ignition on (don't start the engine), within 5 sec the SIA status will be displayed. Release the reset button. Press and hold the trip reset button for 5 sec, "rst" will be displayed. Release and re-press trip reset button.

The new status should be displayed.

2004 mini cooper fan starts running while idle. temp red lines when idle?

You either have a leaky hose or need a thermostat the fan is designed to come on to cool the radiator down when the engine heats up. have flushed your system lately it you may need to do this as well.

After oil reset car won't start

I have the same problem with 2004 cooperS.Changed the starter.Ran for a few days.Same problem-won't start. My temp solution is to press the clutch, keep the ignition key turned lift the foot off the clutch and press it again-after 2/3 tries,it starts.I think its the clutch, electronic connection problem and I'm not a mechanic-hit and miss.Any one has a solution, please let me know.

2006 mini w/ 30k miles. when stopped, temp gauge shoots up to the red zone. when i start driving again, it drops back down. also, unsure if related, but heat will not blow hot. what could it be?

most likely is going to be a bad thermostat. when you are moving cold air comes through the grill cooling engine but when you stop you don't have that air and thermostat is not allowing flow causing overheating.

Mini Cooper convertible is overheating, fan contiues after stop

I had this exact same problem -- for about a year and a half! Replaced thermostat, replaced sensor twice, replaced overflow tank, replaced radiator cap, placed a grounding kit on the car in case the problem was electrical ... and was ABOUT to replace thermostat again and then the water pump when a new mechanic suggested we bleed air out of the cooling system. The heater core was PACKED with air, as was the upper hose valve area. Previous mechanic had been using a pressurized fill device to bleed the system and this had just been backing air into the heater core. There are two valves under the hood for bleeding air -- one on the heater core and one on the upper hose. It only takes a few minutes to fix this!

Mini cooper s 2002 overheating

Make sure your fan is functional. If the fan is not working this can be a problem as it will not cool the engine.
